Default How To: Install Hardtop Strikers

First off, if you mess anything up its your own damn fault. Just use this as a guid

Tools:
Flat head and phillups skrew drivers

Time:
Should take about 20-30 min. Hopefully less.

Take off the Window visors: (Use the Flat head or if you have the star head that works too)(Do this on both sides)

Next your going to want to remove the side plastic parts. Move the rubber edging out of the way and you should be able to get your fingers at the top to split the two peices apart. If you push the side part towards the window it should come apart pretty easy. Here are a few pics of the parts: (do this on both sides)

Next isnt a step some ppl take, but its really simple so why not. And it just makes things so much eseier.

Take your flat head and pop out the lamp cover. There are two little slits in the back. Just put your flat head in there and slowly twist it. the cover should pop out on each side. Then just take it out:

Next is to take the phillups and take out the two skrews under the lamp cover.

Next you gotta pull down the middle plastic part. But there are two of these clips holding it up on each side:

Just be gentle and pull it straight down on each side and you should be okay. Should look like this when you are done.

If you want you can un-clip the lamp part and set the plastic aside, but its not really in the way, so I just let it hang.

Next its time to take out the old Strikers and put the new ones in:

Do that on both sides then just put everything back together.

Great thread

Question though. Im pondering ordering these HT-strikers but dont really know if they will solve my problem.

You see those 2 Phillips head screws that hold the striker up to the windshield frame? Well those loosen up on me (passenger side only) after 2-3 days of driving around and the striker rattles annoyingly! I tightern them and the rattle goes away. After a few days, the screws loosen and the rattle becomes apparent again.

Think the new strikers will resolve this? Do they come with new screws? Or should i just try to add a dab of Loctite to the phillips-head screws in there

If you think you'll ever need to remove them, don't use the PERMANENT type. Use the next grade down from that ("semi-permanent").
