(SORRY, THIS IS FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR!)

Never realized this until yerterday when I had to unbuckle the safety belt, reach across the cabin, hurt my ribs, to open the passenger door for my wife. The manual says the driver's power door lock can LOCK both doors, but only UNLOCKS the driver's door. Kinda doesn't make sense...

Ok well if you have the factory system with the remote. It has what they call "priority door locks" which means they unlock the drivers door first press the button again and it unlocks the passenger door.

If you inside the car with the car running you are what I refer to as SOL! $h!t outta luck. Reach over and open it.

You might want to try unlocking the passenger door by clicking twice on the "unlock" button on the factory remote...never tried it once inside the car, neither with the key in or out of the ignition, so am not sure if it will work...but it does work if you are outside of the car, so I assume it will work when you are inside (at least when the key is not in the ignition).

Yes, it works when the key is not inserted in the ignition switch.

definately not a dumb question at all in my mind. Its actually an annoyance. Sure, I can reach down to the keys and fumble around the alarm and find the unlock button to hit it once again - but then it doesn't work since it doesn't hit the sensor! (at least in my aiming) So, I gotta reach over, like eveyone else, and unlock the passenger side door. Small annoyance, but I'll cope with it.

Here's what's worse ... get in the car and forget to hit the unlock button twice (or you're in the habit of locking the driver's door once you get in) so the passenger door is locked. Go to pick up your wife and she wants to put her briefcase in the trunk. Uh-oh, the console is locked.

You've now got two choices, and both of them require you to shut off the engine and remove the key from the ignition:

1. Hit the trunk release on the remote

or

2. Unlock the console, and push the trunk release button inside the console.

Either way, now you've got the key out of the ignition and you can hit the unlock button to unlock the passenger door.

A real inconvenience, and one that still ticks me off after more than a year.

My security system (Alpine) is set to automatically unlock both doors when I turn off the ignition and lock them 15 seconds after I start the car. Also, the remote doesn't require the double hit to unlock the passenger side. Both doors unlock with one push.

But not being able to independently control the passenger side door lock from the driver's side is a real pain.
