Good luck. I posted about this a couple of months ago and had a ton of replies...everything from dawn to peanut butter.

One guy had success with dawn. Nothing has worked for me. Ironically today my "Dried on Wax Remover" from Griots garage has arrived. I will try later tonight and report back on how it works.

Here is a link to griots- wax remover

Sorry for hijacking your thread but this all seems relative....

Griots Dried on Wax Remover did not work. The more I think about his arrogant comment about not being sloppy with wax the more I am now pissed I spent $ on this product. He claims he has made our life easier with this answer to dried on wax.

It worked on the trim but not on the top.

To date I have tried the following items:
3m adhesive remover
Dawn
Joy
Bug and Tar remover
Griots Dried wax remover
303 Cleaner
Ragtop cleaner
And out of desperation...Paint degloser

I have used soft brushes and stiff bristle brushes. I have let the products soak in. I have tried doing this on dry top and with the top wet.

Here are some pictures of the specks:

As I walked back into the house I seriously eyed my small plumbers torch

I am at my wits end...The wax looks terrible.

My next plan of action is to try some extremely hot water an try to melt the wax. Please advise if this is a bad idea.

Thanks for any help.

1. wow! hard to believe you still havent gotten that fixed- did you use a brush?

2. sounds like a griots experience i had many years ago (and why i hesitate to buy his products)-

3. dont think i would use hot water on the car (too much soft rubber that could be damaged- and would not be great for the paint either).

sounds like your wax has cured onto the car!!

let me send this link to a couple of guys who might have some ideas-

Thanks for looking into this.

I have used soft bristle brushes and stiff bristle brushes. The pain in the rear in all this is when the wax is wet you can't tell if it is coming off. So I will have this great looking top and when it dries back out I am still blessed with the little specks.

I went with the griots simply beacuse of how he described the product and how it would fix my sloppy mistake

Please let me know if you come up with a possible solution.

Thanks

i had suggested warmed up peanut butter before, and dont see it on your list-
lets wait to see if we get some other ideas before you try this one...

looks like you got the wax in the pores of the top-
which wax is this?

Mike,

Thanks for inviting me over to look at caneintn's problem.

I'm afraid I may have bad news. If the wax stood up to that battery of chemicals, it may not be wax you're seeing at all. I suspect I may very well be that your top has been bleached.

A good test is to simply get some Oxyclean and mix it into a thin paste. Use an old toothbrush and some Oxyclean on a small area of the spots. Wipe of the Oxyclean thoroughly with a damp towel. Are the spots still there? If so, the stains are really bleach spots, in which case I feel for you.

Do the test and get back to me at david@autopia.org.

I will try the oxi clean. I am having the wife pick some up when she heads home.

The wax is Meguiars NXT liquid.

What confuses me is that I know how the specks got there....Nothing like turning on the PC and not realizing that it was on 6 just after squirting wax onto the pad. I washed the top off and it appeared that the wax was off while it was wet. The specks were there when I went out the next morning. Several days passed before I could get a chance to remove. That is when I first posted awhile back.

Is it possible the the wax has bleached the top?

I will update after I try the oxiclean method.

Thanks for the help.

My wife brought home shout stain remover with oxyclean power

I will get some oxyclean and try later Wednesday.

What I did notice as I checked the top after fully drying is some of the specks are getting to where they give a chalky residue when I scrape them. This is good and bad. At least some of it is coming off....but it is a pain to try to wipe it off. This is a positive sign however.
