Stolen seats questions
I don't have an S2000, but I'm helping out my mother's friend's 16 year old son whose S2000's seats got stolen today. He's going through the insurance company now but will not hear back from them until tomorrow the soonest. In the meantime he's totally freaking out and crying (literally) and want to know what's going to happen.
Is the insurance company going to cover for the slashed softop and the stolen seats? If so, are they going to replace with brand new soft-top/seats? Or will the insurance company find used seats/softop from junk yards to replace with? Or will they simply write him a check for X amount of $ (and presumably way below market value)? Is his insurance rate going to increase if he fixes his car through his insurance company?
And please give me tips on how to calm someone down in this situation.
Thanks! Really appreciate the help.
In the past, from what has been posted, they normally replace the top with a new top and the seats are replaced with all new parts. The seats are not sold as a set, but a collection of parts. They sell for roughly 7k alone. Also since this is a "No Fault" claim, his rates should stay the same.
Thanks!
Also, should he have his car repaired at the dealer or a body-shop? His mom says they don't know any good upholstery shop that also does soft-tops, but have good experiences with this particular body-shop that they alway use. Is it bad to have body-shop install soft-tops?

Tell him to sit tight until he can speak with a claims adjuster from his company. They will have a listing of recommended shops for pretty much any type of claim. The best bet would be finding a Honda dealer with a shop, since it's really just replacing OEM parts.
It won't raise his rates. He'll get new stuff. Tell him not to worry, and just to bolt a milk crate into his car to sit on until then.

Yes the seats are really expensive - which is probably part of the reason they get stolen so often.
Naturally we don't know exactly what type of insurance policy is on that car, and cannot say for certain what it covers (or doesn't cover), but generally it should be covered.

Sorry, but I just had to reply to this: A 16 year old with a S2K ??? If I had one when I was 16, I surely would have killed myself. My underpowered VW Beetle saved my ass many times. I sure hope this kid is a lot more responsible than I was and considers where and when he parks the S2K.

He does have comprehensive insurance with a deductible of $300. And $7k for OEM seats? Ouch, what's the reason to price them so high? You can even buy an engine for that much money, can't you?
