Default The Results...WRX vs Stook...

Alright...well I, myself, wasn't too upset with the results of the race last night...

Mind you...it was my first race...I have 2500 miles on my baby...and have only went into V-TEC 5 times...and have never dropped the clutch before...my First race...

Well...we lined up...I revved to 7grand...waiting for the flag-guy to drop the flag...

He dropped it...I dropped the clutch...and pegged the pedal down...and to my surprise...I BOGGED!!!! The rpm's fell to 4grand...by that time he had 4 cars on me...shifting as fast as I could...I cought up to him at the end of the 1/4...was behing by his rear bumper...

We lined up again...right after that...I decided to go another route...I revved up to 6500-7000...and did a bouncing rev...not holding it...but continuously revving...the flag guy dropped...I dropped the clutch...and spun through-out first...I double-clutched it to get grip...by this time, again, he was about 3 cars...I pulled up to his door by the end of the race...but again was behind...

Well...taking into affect that this was the first race...and how I yet don't know how to launch the beast...I wasn't too upset with the outcome...I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO LAUNCH...so that's what I'm doing all day today...this way I can hand it to him tonight...

QUESTION: why did I bog so bad? i revved up to 7grand...and held it there...dropped the clutch, and pegged the gas down...so what went wrong???? What other methods should I choose...?

Thnx...

I think inexperience is your only real problem. To get the best time I think you need to shift just a heartbeat before the rev limiter kicks in and if you have only VTECd 5 times you can't have a very good feel for the timing yet. Practice practice practice and next time you'll reel him in. =)

Launching isn't something you can really learn over an internet forum.. You have to "feel" the car in the given situation. Practice makes perfect as with anything, and that's the only way you'll get it down pat.

You gotta drop the clutch faster to not bog, and feather it when it when the wheels brake loose depending on how much you slide. If your bogging, drop it at higher revs and faster should do it, it may be just the road surface causing it. Go back and whoop him, with a decent launch you should be 1-2 cars in front by my estimates of how much you gained on him with bad launches.

Yeah...I told him to give me a week...then I will race him again...

The problem is that I was used to my old car...2000 Celica...
I knew where to drop it...how to drop it...how much gas...when to shift...etc etc...I told my fiance it's like I gotta learn how to drive all over again...

I know how to drive...I didn't miss a shift...and shifted exactly @ 9grand...so that wasn't the problem...I was 4 cars behind...and caught up to him each time at the end of the race...so i just gotta learn how to launch...

In about an hour...I am going to go to the airport...and learn how to drop the clutch on this thing...wish me luck...maybe I'll race him again tonight...depending on how it goes today...

Your tires are pretty new. I would try a hire clutch drop ... maybe 8 grand...your wheels were hookin' up a little early and left you in non-vtec zone...that's just my guess....

it is very easy to bog even at 7k. If you start to spin and let even a tiny bit off the throttle expect to bog. If you just keep the throttle totally floored..it will spin to much. The S2k can be a little bitch to launch. If you wanna get good. Get a g-tech and do a bunch of launches varying wheel spin and see which sort of launch gives you the best numbers.

In my experience a lot of wheel spin is always better then bogging in the S2k.

spin the tires at like 9k before running...to get em warmed up. The S02's respond better when warm. Then rev to about 7.5k and feather the throttle after dropping.

oh, and no double clutching. Power shift or speed shift whatever you like to call it. Make sure you keep the gas pretty much depressed all the way when you shift in to second and third...do no let up on the throttle.

when you guys power shift and you're already at 9k do you just let it bounce? I can't see anyone shifting fast enough to catch the tach .....

Want to improve your launch? Get a G tech and practice your 0-60's It will help out a whole lot.
