Default S2000 blown engine at Brands Hatch

A guy on Boxa.net went yesterday and one thing he mentioned was an S2000 that had its engine "let go"......anyone here?:

http://www.boxa.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=17129

For those that can't log in to Boxa.net or can't be arsed to try:

"Had a track day yesterday at Brands. Awesome fun, good mix of cars.

Boxster S (mine)
997 Carrera S
Merc SL500
Ferrari 308
Subaru P1
BMW 535d
BMW Z4 3.0
Mitsubishi FTO
Lancia Delta Integrale Evo
Honda S2000
Elise 111S
RX8

plus a selection of Mini Cooper S, Seat Leon Cupra etc.

Now the important bit.

The car was very impressive. Awesome grip and performance, no brake fade.

The car has no PSM and after my spin in the wet when provoking it I was interested to see how it would behave on track. I think it is safe to say that you'd have to be a complete numpty to need PSM in the dry.

I always show mechanical sympathy to my cars but did push quite hard on times. Only once did the back end step out a little and even then it was beautifully controllable and there was absolutely no drama. I was messing about a bit to demonstrate the car to a friend who has a 987S on order.

Obviously it is not a good idea to compete on a track day but you always notice your relative speeds.
Basically I only allowed one car to pass (he was a particularly aggressive driver which bothered me) and that was the Subaru Impreza P1 which was modded and running around 300bhp. Apart from that it was others holding me up. Afterwards the chap with the scooby did say he was well impressed with the boxster and "there was f*** all between the two". I think he had targeted the Box because he seemed to come out just after me quite often...LOL. He did seem to have a reasonable advantage though.

I particularly enjoyed making up a lot of ground on the SL500, though never actually passed it as it had too much grunt on the straights. Regarding the Elise I was a bit disappointed. It had no noticeable advantage through the bends and was hopelessly outgunned on the straighter sections. Fair play to him though he did give it some beans. He spun it twice!!!! Incidentally he is the one buying the boxster S!!!!

Also pretty chuffed with pulling away from one of the instructors in the Megane 225 on a hot lap. I overtook another one also on the start finish straight. Of course I don't know how hard they were pushing but was pretty chuffed none the less. The Z4 was overtaken by the same and he was not pleased!!!

The only other incidents were the Delta blowing a turbo and the Honda S2000s engine letting go. The last car I expected to fail!!!!

I was going to have a blast in the 997 but was too busy giving rides in mine!!! Liked the RX8 also. Handled really nicely and the lack of torque didn't seem too much oof a pronblem on the track at least. Having said that it was a fair bit off the pace of the Box.

Nice that Jonathan Palmer hung around with us during the evening too. Seems like a nice chap. "

DON'T check your oil every other lap you muppet are you going to wait for it to cool a bit and drain down each time to make sure the level is correctly measured??

Just make sure you have plenty before you begin and give it a rest every few laps to save your brake/tyres.

You're meant to be there to enjoy your car, not worry about it and look like an anally retentive knob!

Loads of cars on here have done loads of track days and this is the first we've heard of one 'letting go' More have 'let go' on the road, so WGAF.

Without knowing what happened, it's hard to speculate.

Could be lack of oil. Could be driver going to 3rd and getting 1st! Who knows? I wouldn't worry about it TBH. If there was any inkling of a reliability issue, we'd know by now (the cars been out 6 years) and there hasn't and it has a top reliability rating.

Just check oil before track day. Maybe at the end of luch break when car has chance to cool down for an hour, check the oil then and top up if need be.

Oh, and don't select 1st at 80mph!

There was an issue with older cars, "Spark plug recall" something to do with oil getting to No 3 cylinder i think. Wonder if it was that.

Don't expect an "it was me!" Not if they're trying to claim under warranty anyway.
