Chicago Indoor Racing
Yesterday's meet convinced me that we should start thinking about indoor meets. And there is no better place for "off season training" than Chicago Indoor Racing.

What: Indoor go-kart track in Buffalo Grove, IL (off of Lake Cook rd, between 83 and 21). The experience is not like the crappy lawn mowers they pass off as go-karts at mini-golf places. This is actual racing, similar to the carting every F1 driver has done since they were a fetus. The cars top out at just over 35mph, but since you are low to the ground, it feels twice as fast. They're honda engines too! Racing techniques also apply in this environment. They also provide you with a race suit and helmet (although you can bring your own).
How much: Events range in price. The best deals are the group events. A "Mini Gran Prix" is $60. This includes 2 qualifying races and 1 race. A "Gran Prix" is $80 and is 3 qualifying races and 1 race. They also have "Arrive and drives" (non grouped events). This costs $25 for the first 2 races and $10 for every race after that. For the "Arrive and drives" you need a "license". A licesense costs $10 for 1 month or $25 for a year. The license is not required if you go for a group event.
Who: Have to be 18 and valid drivers license to race. Races are between 6 and 10 people.
When: October 15, 6:30 pm
So I'm thinking a Mini Gran Prix. I've been to this place quite a few times. Every time I've introduced this to a friend, they thought it was a bit expensive at first. After they raced, they thought it was a lot of fun and well worth it.

Oh, one more thing.
You do not have to race to come. You can watch the race, watch Speed Channel, eat, drink, play video games, play pool, hang out with the races pre and post race. Please invite your friends/family.

i went for a work function about a month ago; it was a blast. we did the gran prix deal...3 qualifiers (15 laps) and a final race (25 or 30 laps). i kinda thought they flagged you too easily. they put me in the penalty box for spinning out, even w/no cars around...went from 1st to 6th or 7th! oh well...still a ton of fun though. there's a restaurant-ish area upstairs, with an arcade.

Saturday nights
I'd never have an excuse to miss it at that time.
Since I work some Saturdays during the day, I gotta vote against that.
And weeknights, I'd just be too late, probably.
So everyone vote for Saturday nights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
