Help. Popping noise front front suspension.
For a while now I have trying to find the cause a "pop" from the front (right I think) suspension. It happens most often when backing up with the wheels turned left. I have installed Koni yellows and changed brake pads several times so I am fairly certain that all the nuts and bolts in that area are tight. Any ideas on what it could be? Ball joint? Stearing knuckle?
It's not really a TSB, It's a Techline article that was originally written for SCCA racers. If a car a the SCCA nationals had the repair done it would still be considered legal, and not modified from stock.
If the car is on R-compound tires, (or any tire with more grip than a stock width S02) The front upper control arm mounts can pull away from the body.
The repair is to weld them back on, but not stitch weld around the mount or and any other reinforcement.
The 04-05 cars have a reinforcement strap allready in place on the upper arm mounts.

I have also found that when the alignment bolts are not tight there is movement that causes noise that can be heard under some conditions. The tabs on my subframe where flattened when inadequate torque was used and they loosened up.. I have now taken to re-torquing after an alignment and periodically afterwards.
Thanks for the information. I found this on NHTSA's website.

This is exactally what was causing my popping under the conditions that the original poster described. It's a very easy fix I would suggest giving this a try first.
