Default Membership fees

I'm not complaining by any means, but I have been involved w/ plenty of Good Websites over the years and not one of them has had membership fees. They have all offered either more or the same level of features as here and did it w/o seeking funds from it's members. Yes they did have ads, but that goes w/ any website.
I'm happy as a guest so far though, so...

My question is what exactly are the dues for?? Servers, time involved, etc... Profit?
I read in another post that this is a "for profit" website, so is there a place to view the earnings? Are you filing taxes on what you earn?
Just curious.

"I tried paying my mortgage with goodwill but for some reason they wouldn't accept it. I call it enlightend self-interest. I need to get paid even if it's only modestly. Hell, I make all of $47/day on Google Ads. The amount of advertising you see is proportional to the size of the contribution you make. It needs to be made up somehow. Members see fewer ads, Gold members see no 3rd party ads at all.

I'm trying to offer a range of options to suit the needs and wants of the users while at the same time meet my financial needs. s2ki.com is a for-profit site which provides a big incentive to me to work hard and do a good job. If I do the best job I can and put in a good measure of effort then everybody wins. Capitalism at work."

Here is my response to a similar question:

This is a privately owned site. Would you walk into a privately owned shop and ask the owner to show you his financial records? Try that with your favourite restaurant.

Since you are a newbie, https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=336833 this thread will provide you with the membership options.

It's good that new folks ask these questions.

If there is a profit being made, then there are taxes to be collected and therefore technically I can obtain the information.
If you are a private citizen, this is none of your business as it is none of my business, either. If you are a "taxman", then you have utilized the wrong medium to conduct your business and I'm sure your boss would have something to say about it. A "taxman" would go through "proper channels" to look into such things. This isn't it.

That is unless it effects you in some way personaly and then maybe you care to share.
I and all those who are COs or moderators have no monetary ties to this site. We do what we do out of enthusiasm for the car and for this site. You appear to be putting some inuendos into what goes on here. Even if I did get paid, again, this is none of your business nor is it that of anyone else here.

[QUOTE]I mainly am just curious as to what my money would be going to other than an email addy I don't need, picture hosting which I don't need, a card in my wallet

And you can note my subsequent response to that.

Actually it is and you have access to this info also if you so choose.
The taxman comments I find humorous , I'm just stating that if this site is making money then I'm SURE it's documented somewhere and as a citizen that pays taxes I also know that this information can be made available to me. I also did accounting for 4 years for one of the WORLDS largest Engineering, Architectural firms, so I know the laws etc...
My only concern there is general curiosity. Hell if the guy is making a living off the damn site maybe I'm interested in how he is doing it. It was also in response to you saying

just to let you know that I don't have to ask him, I can get it w/o asking. Just as an FYI.

Why is this a problem? I work full time running s2ki and take full and ultimate responsibility for keeping it reliable and accessible and I get paid, so what? If you have access to my tax records then go look them up. If you don't think your tax return is private then post yours so we can have a look.

If you don't think I deserve to be paid for what I do then don't pay.

My original question "My question is what exactly are the dues for?? Servers, time involved, etc... Profit?"
Not what exactly what do they put in there pockets, better yet a basic explanation like "to take care of said # of servers, buy software, time into development etc... a profit enough that helps me enjoy running the site".... A basic answer to my original question.
You answered your own question. See the other topic in this forum for details.

Hell if the guy is making a living off the damn site maybe I'm interested in how he is doing it.
Then you should PM him. It may be a private matter and not one for public scrutiny.

You're right, and that is exactly what I'm trying to do, make an informed decision.
You have everything you need to know already without having to ask him the color of his underwear.

there are still free "guest" spots here
There is no "quota" on guest spots.

but my question has yet to be answered
If you go to the link I put up, you'll see that Cthree has answered, even though there is no responsibility on his part to do so.

So no hard feelings man, I'm just enjoying the site.
Fair enough. That's why I'm here.
