Default New Enclosed race car trailer for our S2K

Let's call this a "Really Nice Christmas Present"

I have ordered a new enclosed car trailer that is being built during the next 8 weeks, and have a few questions on Tie Downs.

The trailer is 20 foot long and 102 inches wide, with a 30" V-nose front. There will be E-track built into the floor for tie downs. My first thought, is to use over the wheel tie downs, (some people call these Wheel Bonnets), that ratchet directly to the E-Track.

Question to those of you that have trailers - What method are you using to secure your S2K to your trailer?

Second question - is there anything that you wish you had built in to your enclosed trailer. Or, are there things that you had built in to the trailer - that you never use and could do with out.

Since my trailer is being built, I have a few weeks to make any changes. I will post some pictures later when it arrives on the lot of my dealer.

Order four "R hooks" from a towing supply company. They slot into special holes in the sill designed for rail/ship transport (just pull out the oval grommets that cover the holes). Be sure to cross your straps.

I got mine here:

Joe, congrats on the trailer purchase.

As I mentioned in our PMs on the subject, most people are using those R hooks that Jeremy posted to trailer their S2K.

I'd probably step up from a 20' to a 24' trailer. You'll have a lot more room for tires, spares, and things like that. Generally the extra cost per foot is pretty low, and I think you'll appreciate the extra room in the long run.

e-track will work as an alternative to the standard built-in D-rings.

Don't know what sort of flooring you're getting, but ATP where the tires will be will help keep it from getting torn up when you roll a car with hot, sticky, gravel-laden race tires up into it.

Last thing I'd seriously look at it upgraded axles and wheels/tires. The current pieces may be quite adequate for the anticipated load, but I've found the heavier-duty stuff just lasts longer when supporting a lighter load. Changing tires, hubs, and bearings is no fun on the side of the road...

I'd take a look at the whole catalog of options you have too - A/C, cabinetry, built-in tire racks, generator compartment, DC and AC lighting, alternate exterior colors, carpeted interior sides, roll-down awning, etc. etc. etc...

add loading lights that run off tow vehicle power (via the std multi pin elec brake connector) if it doesn't already have it

Thanks Jeremy for the advice about the R Hooks and the Loading lights. I will order 4 of the R hooks. Regarding the Loading lights, that is a great idea and I will contact the dealer today to see about adding that option.

And thanks jzr for your suggestions. The V-Nose on the front of the 20 trailer adds about another 30" to to interior space, so almost makes it a 24 foot. I had already up-graded the axles from the 7500 to 9900.

Regarding the Floor.. I will talk to my dealer about the APT suggestion. I have ordered a built in Tire Rack for one set of extra wheels/tires. Also, I had ordered the lighting package you spoke of.

Regarding the Generator, I have decided to buy 2 Honda EU2000 quiet generators that you can hook in parallel. This will provide 4000 watts of power. This will be enough to run a roof top A/C unit and a few other things. For generator power, this was a less expensive option than a built in Generator. Also, I had ordered a 18 foot awning.

Trailer is being built by H&H Trailer in Clarinda Iowa.

Thanks again,

If youre moving the car a lot I had 4 rings welded on to the car and they make hooking the car up a lot quicker. The 2 in the rear are off the subframe and the 2 in the front are off the frame behind the wheels.

The R hooks are what I used before, but having the welded rings allows me to clip the car onto the tiedowns in about half the time now.

Sounds like one heck of a Christmass present. I'm jealous.

First it was who has the best bike, than the best skateboard, than the best car, than the best mods, than the best floor jack, than the biggest air compressor and now it is who has the best trailer and tow vehicle. When will the madness stop?

Thanks Rylan....Interesting idea! After I hook it up using R-Hooks for a while, I may go to what you suggested.
