Default I'm not crazy! Chuck at Menlo Honda is excellent!

You may have seen some of my posts about my transmission problems and the lack of response I've gotten from the dealers I've taken it to...

Well, as per suggestions from some great people here, I took it to Menlo Honda in Redwood City on Monday (I had to wait for the weather to get cold again and the problem to come back). I talked with Chuck there, and he was VERY understanding and willing to look at the car.

Well, first thing Tuesday morning they got in the car, and BINGO they couldn't get it in gear! They took the transmission out and took it apart this morning. Here's the list of what they found...

-Syncros were put in too tight after the TSB.
-need to replace syncros for 1st & 2nd gear.
-need to replace the actual gears for 2nd & 5th gear.

they're going to look at the clutch while they're there and see how that looks as well...

All this under warrantee, I have a loaner car, and Chuck has been updating me at least daily.

Thanx for everyone's recommendations for Chuck. I'll have her back on Friday, just in time for the LH event! YEAH.

It's Like BUTTA!

Oh my gosh! I can shift again!!!!!

So, I picked the car up today, Chuck had the replaced gears and syncros waiting for me to see. There were 3 or 4 teeth on 5th gear that were actually chipped! One was almost the entire side of the gear.

I noticed my brakes were giving me a slight pulse, so I asked them to look at them while the car was there; the left rear rotor was .006 out of spec, so they both back rotors to spec and same thickness--for FREE. Chuck said that after all my trouble it was the least Honda could do. He said all the pads were in great shape. Not bad after 24,000 miles!

They looked at the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel while they the car apart and said they all looked like new (12K on the clutch & pressure plate).

So, I left the dealership with a smile and took a ride to the Apple Store in PA. 101 was a mess, so I ended up on Page Mill going towards 280. I kept shifting from 3rd to 4th and back again--BECAUSE I COULD! then, as I'm getting on 280, I punch it a bit, the CD was just switching so there was no music, and I started to notice the weirdest sound... I realized it was just the engine. This was the first time I was able to hear the engine over the transmission!

It took me almost 2 hours (drive time) to get home, but boy was it well worth it!!

Need service? go to Menlo Honda! they make me go

passleft,

It's good to hear that your car is just like new now! I also had a great experience at Menlo Honda. I second your recommendation. If you work in the Palo Alto/Redwood City area, they will even drive you to work!

Guys, thanks for the recommendation on Menlo Honda. I live in Redwood City, but wasn't sure about having them do serious work until I read the thread.

Has anybody heard if there's a better fix for the clutch noise on deceleration coming?

Stan
