Test Drove a WRX Today...Impressions Inside (kinda long)
Wow...is all I can say...
The salesman was such a cool guy...a little older, like in his mid-40s...
I went with my dad and brother...
Silver WRX on 225 17s with Black Speedline Rims (looked soooooo gorgeous) and a nice spoiler...
Ok, it comes std with a 6 CD in dash system, single load (sweet!), 5 spd tranny, AWD, LSD, Turbo, Momo steering wheel (unbelievable feel)
I drove for about 3 miles, and the salesman was sooooo funny. He said "WRX drivers are usually the craziest drivers" and "Customers are usually the best salesman for these cars"...
Anyway, from 0-60..., it took a hair over 5 seconds (with THREE OTHER ADULTS + A/C was on)...so that was really impressive...
I turned left doing about 45-50 on a 90-degree turn. No body roll. No tires squealing.
I did a panic brake from 60 to 0 and stopped in ~2 seconds with no slipping whatsoever...very solid brakes.
Late 1st, 2nd-4th gears feel very smooth, especially above 3K rpms...
No 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd grinds... =)
Low-end torque is very noticeable and helpful...the bastard lurches forward even with a low-rpm launch.
Very very very forgiving on the road...beautiful handling, very solid brakes, clean looks, and an unbelievable value at $26,500 as driven.
Highly recommended.

No body roll... makes me wonder if it was on the STI suspension kit.
You can feel the weight transfer on my car, its not bad, but its there.
I love the car!
You should drive one that has a slightly upgraded turbo.
see my sig if you want to get an idea what that runs like

- sometimes i go in my S2000 0-80 in what feels like no more than 5-6 seconds, and I know it's not that fast ...
Not trying to put the WRX down or question your impressions, I'm just curious if the salesman let you bring a g-tech with you and if he let you launch the car (which you have to do to get 0-60 into 5's).

The salesman (Richard) actually did bring a stopwatch with him, and we had an area with a long straight (~2 miles) with no cars around, so we launched it a few times.
I couldn't measure the stopping distance in 'feet', so we measured it in seconds instead.
It kinda sucks how people are doubtful on this board...
I don't see anyone doubting people who claim they ripped Z06s and 360s in their stock S2000s...
And as for the suspension, I think it was tweaked because I've never seen a dealership mod a car that nicely and offer it for sale as brand new.

the stopwatch is a lousy way to tell 0-60... you would be suprised how low or high it can read.
i know that subaru advertised 0-60 in 6.4 for the stock car when the ads frist started hitting, but this was with 2 people in the car and a full tank of gas.
several mags have since turned much, much better 0-60 times.

I tend not to agree with any magazine articles claiming 0-60 or quarter mile times because they're often not driven under good conditions, or the cars they test are not broken in properly.
For example, some mags claim 0-60 times for the S2K at 6+ seconds, and we know that's not true.
In fact, Motor Trend even wrote that with a normal 3K launch, it could take up to 9 seconds to hit 60 in an S2K...
But we here know how to run the car...
Anyway, I've seen 6+ seconds also for a stock WRX 0-60, but I know that it's on par with an S2K (both stock) if launched properly.

mag times for the WRX mostly have been in the mid 5 second range.
The subaru add was 6.4 then they dropped it to 5.8 after several mags got much better times than they were claiming.
They may want to drop it again...
In any case, the best 1/4 mile time has been a 14.1
I'd say that i belive the mags much more than a guy with a stopwatch... sorry but thats true.
