Not width but diameter. Say I run a 225/45-17 front and a 275/40-17 rear which has a .7" difference In overall diameter. Is that too much? Is the main problem that ABS kicks in to early? Thanks.

Interesting question.......I thought the ABS kicked in when any individual wheel sensor noticed a lockup. I didn't think it would compare the front and rear to see if one set is rotating at a different rate than the other.

Someone with a definite answer would have to chime in but I think the ABS would not be affected at all by a difference in tire size.

I don't think there would be a problem with the size difference but with a smaller front tire I think you would make the steering more sensative.

Personally I would squeeze a 235 or even 245 on the front so you would have a wider contact patch, braking would be marginally better and you wouldn't have the diameter difference.

I want to use a 245 V710 front and 275 rear but people seem to have rubbing on the left front. So I thinking about a Victoracer 225/275 combo. I thought there was some sensor that detected wheel speed difference from front to back? I might be thinking about some other car though?

HAHA......you are probably thinking about your wife's Subie. That thing has 3 diffs and sensors all over comparing this and that and adjusting the power transfer.

Well you might rub a little but if you can adjust your ride height just a little more you should be able to make it work. Plus the 710's will be faster than the victoracers even if you shave them down. Not that I have run either tire yet but I am assuming that because the 710's are newer design and compound designed from what was learned with victoracers and v700's.

The 245/4017 V710 is coming...can you wait?

How about the 225/255 Victoracer combo?

I've used 265/45-16 on the rear with 225/50-16 fronts using both Victoracers and 710s with no ABS or other problems. Well, my driving but that's due to the short between the headset...

I would guess that acceleration is a concern of yours too. FWIW, I ran the 265/45-16 on my ap1 and I pretty much hate the sluggy acceleration they caused. I don't know exactly how much bigger they are than stock but I can tell you that any increase in diameter will make the car feel slow.

jfo - Yea, your right about that, it probably is the Suby I am thinking of.

Orthonormal - I guess the question is when? First event of the seaosn is the end of March. The 225/255 combo would fit fine but not as sticky as a 275 in the back?

I heard April for the new 245/40-17 V710. Fortunately I think my tires will last that long. Unfortunately that's after the SD Tour and LA Pro.

225/255 Victoracers were well balanced with the hollow Gendron front swaybar and stock shocks. It just seems like the 275 on the rear would make the car understeer more and raise the gearing and rear ride height.
