Guys:

I think you'll find that the concept of the AUT plate and CAI coupled with an air scoop behind the grille works well for a lot of applications. My only concern about its use with the K&N FPIK is that having the filter and initial intake in a sealed box (like a stock gutted box) is part of what makes the mod I've suggested above work the way it does. At higher speeds, the sealed (and gutted) stock air box is actually driven under some pressure by the air being forced in by the scoop. Think of it as a VERY, VERY low pressure supercharger. Nothing like a real super, of course, but better than any CAI I've driven. If the K&N FPIK does not "seal up" in this manner, this is one benefit of the suggested mod that you'd just not have. However, the K&N FPIK may well have some offsetting benefits, and I would like to learn of these.

Thanks,
Richard

I will be looking into doing this soon, however I had an idea for those using the K&N FPIK. One option could be to extend the 3" tube down to the faux pax vent in the front bumper to act as a somewhat longer ram air. Not sure how effective it would be though at that length.

I wonder if using a "spoon" snorkel rather than the AUT cooling plate, holding everything else constant, would yield similar results...

I think a Spoon would be close, but "no cigar." The spoon has a smaller "scoop" surface area than the scoop I built runing to the AUT intake. Also, there is the issue of that restriction in the Spoon where it passes over the radiator top, where there isn't much cleanance. And then there is the cost. AUT + home-made scoop much cheaper than a Spoon.

Thanks,
Richard

Hey guys, sorry to bump an ancient thread but I am really interested in doing something like this to pair with my K&N and AUT. It looks like the writeup was deleted and I was wondering if anyone had a backup? Thanks a ton!
