Default New Stereo Mods - POLK Audio

I finally bit the bullet and had a real professional install the POLK Audio Gear that I had purchased. Craig from QUE Auto Restyling (813-779-3991) did a fantastic job. I already had the Alpine Head Unit. He completely ran all new wire (some 220+feet) and hooked up the Polk Momo 6.5" compnents into the doors. Polk 5.25" coaxials behind the seats. Aura PRO Bass Shakers under the seats. All of these are powered by the POLK 4/3/2 AMP in the trunk. Then I had this older Alpine Factory one-piece powered sub box that fit right inside the recessed tool box area inside the trunk. He rigged it up to where all I have to do is hit the quick-disconnect pug and "Wa-La", it comes right in 2 seconds, completely portable if I need the extra storage space.

The sound exceeds my expectations. These Bass Shakers are the coolest thing that I have experienced. As a drummer, these hit exactly the way that a miked-up bass drum should hit you in a club. Obviously, they can be turned up/down as you desire.

Very, very nice sound from the entire system, extremely clean at a volume that now easily overides my Spugen if I need it to. Make sure you ask for a demo the next time that you see me!!

Nice choice on the speakers. I'm running all momo's (doors, s-pods, subs) and love 'em. Those can't be momo's behind you seat right? I didn't think there was any way to get the magnets on those in there. Are they the DB line?

Nice setup but I have to disagree with Ben's choice of location. I think the S-Pods are the best place. No seat interference, pure sound by your head, and you don't need much power since they are by your head.

I do want to know where the bass shakers came from.

DB's behind the seat. You're right, no way for the Momo magnents to fit without cutting the sheet metal. Frankly, they sound super up to high volume and then the Momo's up front are just starting to breath and you no longer need the ambient from behind. I really believe the matched Momo amp is teh missing link. I have 4 different Alpine amps and none of them were getting it done. Craig gave me a sweet deal to upgrade to the Momo amp & now I know why.

If for some reason, I do go to desiring more power behind the base of my skull, I will run the component DB 5.25 (which I already own) in the S-Pod fashion. I'll hook them up the existing 5.25" DB behind the seat and rum the 2 ohm load so I don't have to install another amp.

The discussion around where to put rear speakers is one of those 2 drink minimum office hallway forums. I've listen to both, took the less agressive approach and started with that. So far, no disappointments. AND, I already know that momma did not want the S-Pod look so I get to win brownie points for that decision. For those of you that really want it loud behind your noggin', I have back at work a site with pics of a gal that monted Polk 8" drivers in the Roll Bar cavities. I'll try to post the link just for the shagrinns of braggin' rights. Nevertheless, I know all too well what loud is all about. Try keeping your senses (and rythym) with twin Marshall Stacks from a wannabe' Van Halen axehandler, 18" Black Widows and EV Compression Bi-Lateral 132db Horns 10' from your ears for the past 32 years. I deserve this break....................

Here is the link on the Bass Shakers from a company called Parts Express out of Dayton, OH. There are two styles but my choice is to go with the larger PRO series.

Having had speakers mounted behind the seat amd now in the s-pods, I have to say the s-pods are magnitudes better. BUT, they're really pricey for what they are. I tried to fabricate something similar and it came out pretty crappy (thus the s-pods). Now that I have the s-pods to use as a pattern, it would be pretty easy to DIY some. The nice thing is it gives you a lot more room for a bigger speaker. That's how I got the momo's back there.

And Jeff, I've seen bass shakers on ebay quite a bit.

Wow, I always wondered why no one ever mounted their subs under the seat (always in trunk)... Nice setup!!

Now that I have had it for a day of testing, the Bass Shakers are doing all the work. When I have the top down at 70 MPH, I pull up the Subwoofer selector and increase it from 0-18. The rear trunk monted sub is the only item that is hooked up to this phase, not the Bass Shakers. Anyway, I have it set to 12 and still can't really feel at this speed but when I push it up the 16-18 range it is not clean and frankly its no doubt due to age & quality of this old Alpine sub. I am sure that I will be going back to Craig and building a new portable unit that will house a 10" Polk Momo and a Polk Mono block amp. I just gotta' absorb what I have just recently spent already.

**see the new added pics of the Drum Room above on my earlier comment concerning speakers right next to your head!
