Default Overheated on the way home from Germany

My (Mugen) thermostat busted and I overheated on the way back from Germany.

Stopped on the autobahn, and noticed that no heat was coming through the vents when on full wack.

Richard (Kobe) was very helpful and gave me his diagnostic widget, so we could see what temp the water was, it had maxed at 127

Once cooled down a bit we started up to see what happened, and it ran fine, the temp was stable so drove 1km to next exit and got off the motorway to check. After 15 minutes it seemed to be stable so on with the journey and hot air was now coming out of the vents.

About 45 mins down the road, steady as it goes and keeping an eye on the temp all the way, it started increasing again, so we stopped. I phoned Jorge my trusty Honda Tech (who was on holiday in Portugal) He advised me to checked the bottom pipe, which was cold, top pipe which was hot, therefore thermostat not working properly.

Eventually called out Euroassist, and to cut long story short got trucked back all the way home. (Cologne to Dunkirk, Ferry, Dover to Ricky) Well done Euroassist - best

Sorry to hear about your car. At least it didn't happen on the Ring itself.

Get a port / polish and adjust the compression while you're there

Bad luck though

Be interested to see how the stat failed?

Is the radiator suffering a blockage? Has the Mugen 'stat been tested (dip in boiling water then cold water)? I might have a spare rad but unknown history.

By all means skim etc (that sounds like a fair price if all inclusive); but you need the secondary diagnosis certain or you'll be doing it again and again. I know I did in the old Volvo camping wagon. Gold Crest Motors St Albans 832835 if they're still in business
