Very Unhappy: Went to pick up new S2000 Today
Well I went to the dealer at 10 am to pick up my brand spanking new 2000 S2k silver/red. Filled out the paper work on my trade and all. The salesman brings the car around (I am intoxicated by its beauty) He hops out and says "your not gonna be happy" he then points out a 5" long very deep scratch on the rear drivers side fender, right after the door. I almost puked at the sight. He said it would be "no problem" well just paint it and it will be perfect (yeah right) needless to say I did not take the car. I am supposed to go back on Tuesday when it comes back from the body shop, and see if I want it...only had 5 miles too
Tell me what would you guys do?
Take the repainted 2000 or wait for a 2001 and pay at least $1500.00 more and lose about a grand on the trade in?

Take it!
Oh, but cry bloody murder first, get yourself some free goodies and whatever else you can get.
Let's face it, with in the next three months you're gunna get stone chips, your dogs going to jump on it, someone will breathe on it wrong. It's just a car (albeit a damn fine one which you will be amazed how much you will enjoy).
Also, watch "The world according to Garp". It's been accident proofed!

Ok, let's assume you went into the dealer to buy a car you see a car on the lot that is perfect you do the deal and drive it home. How do you know that there was not a 5" scratch repaired before you bought it? Let's say you don't take the car and it goes on the lot and someone buys it. They will never know about the scratch.
Take the car and make sure they do a really good job on the refinish. Get some goodies for your trouble like mats or aeroscreen and be happy. Truth is you could drive off the lot and have someone bash into you on the way home. At least they will fix it at the insurance company expense, not yours this time. You will always get one little ding just because it is inevitable. Now you've got yours and you should be safe from now on.

I totally agree with all the previous posts!!!Make sure you b!tch and moan loudly to the sales manager to get freebees (free 7,5000 miles services, free oil change, or have them throw in some accessories for the car - side strakes, front or back spoilers, aeroscreen, emblem kit...) Good luck!!!
And don't forget to complain a lot! Don't let up on them and never seem contented or satisfied. The more you gripe, the better the reimbursement for the scratch. I would even go into detail about how you park great distances from shopping centers just to protect your car's finish, etc.

Also be happy the dealer showed you the scratch and didn't just have it painted without your knowledge. Then you take the car home and 2 weeks or whatever later you find a poorly blended panel on the car. Then what do you do? I wouldn't ***** too much-tell them you would like some discount on parts or service to make up for the hassle. When I was working at a dealership we hated people who *****ed-and usually they got blacklisted.
Just my $.02 from being on the other side of the fence.

I have never had a good experience with a dealer paint job. I would get a discount and have a body shop you really trust fix the scratch. Also, make sure they fix just the scratch! You ought to leave as much of the original paint as possible.
But by all means, take the car! The original paint and any repaint will never "fade" at the same rate.

I would take the car.
But, inspect the repaired/affected area very closely under light and in the dark. Silver is a relatively low maintenance color(compared to darker colors), but is very difficult to color match when it comes to body work.
Good luck!
