Default Menlo Honda - S2000 Surgery

I dropped my S2000 off for a 7500 service and mentioned the clutch whine, impossible to get into 1st gear when cold, seat rattle and they immediatly took the car, got me a rental and seemed to know what was going on.. I hope the recommendations about this place were right!.. Should be a few days .. They seemed very knowledgable there but I have a history of bad luck.. There were 2 other S2000s there being worked on there though....

Yeah, Menlo Honda is great! I'm having some trouble with my clutch. I'm going to take it in for my 15K service. I have two problems:

1. Shifting to 1st gear from neutral will jog the transmission with the clutch pedal all the way down to the floor. My guess is that the clutch is not releasing completely.

2. Completely contrary to the first problem, in first gear, the clutch engagement will pulsate causing my car to jerk as it is accelerating. This doesn't happen all of the time. It feels like the clutch is grabbing, but then can't hold on and it releases, but then catches again. So the car will accelerate, decelerate, and accelerate again, repeat indefinitely until I switch to 2nd gear. And my foot is constantly on the gas.

Anyone else have this problem?

I had my transmission worked on at Menlo last week. Quieter and better shifting, but still have some problem from 2 to 3. Eliminated the problem on 1 to 2. Improved, but not perfect.

Regarding the jerking, I get that only very infrequently when I don't give it enough gas and let the clutch out too quickly. I just depress the clutch, spin it up some and start over.

Good point. Usually this is the case, but it happened today when the engine speed was over 4000 RPMs so I was a little shocked.

I assume you mean down-shifting to 1st when slowing down (and car is cold)?

Chuck personally worked on your transmission? I thought he was the service manager.

Actually, this is one of the signs that you need to dump your girlfriend. (or boyfriend for you laidies Really, I've done it.

On topic ... how can you tell if your clutch needs work? I think mine does, Noisey downshifts in 2nd and 3rd, sometimes grinds going into 2nd and can be very hard to get into 1st from a stop (always seems fine downshifing tho).

However, I could just be getting paranoid from reading this board I really can't complain 'cause it is still a very sweet shift, but if I do need anything I'd like to do it under warranty.
