Default Shifter Adjustment

My stick has been feeling really loose lately. Is there anyway to make it feel more stiff?

The Shifter, you know the "Stick", not the Knob or the Nut under the knob, but the Stick. Its very loose, like when its in gear, i can wiggle it loosely. Is this normal? Should it be stiff when its in gear?

You know, my lever feels a little loose in this warm weather -- it's probably just the bushings loosening up a bit. Unless you have massive amounts of play while the car is in gear, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I been quiet the last few days (thank God, right LOL), but this is too funny...

How can the commentary get any more loaded?

I guess noone's mentioned a polished knob yet...

Just to sum up a few of the more pertinent posts:

A "loose stick" could be a function of age. It also just could be an interest level thing. Do you still like your S as much as when you bought it?

If "your lever feels a little loose" maybe it's because you're not wiggling it loosely often enough.

You might try running it thru the gears vigorously more often, after all the saying is "if you don't use it you lose it."

I can say definitively tho, if it's not stiff you won't get it into gear.
