Default rear end noise

I recently had some strange noise comeing from my drivers rear wheel. At first I thought it was the brake sticking, and tore it apart to inspect the pads/rotors etc. That didnt show anything.
Its making a squeaking/clanging/rubbing noise while the wheel is moving... sometimes. But I HAD to drive me car 100 miles and noticed a new noice. While driving in 6th gear going 70-80ish whenever I apply the accelerator even a little it sounds like a hammer is hitting my diff. The harder I hit the accelerator the louder it gets... then if I apply even more gas it might stop. Then for a while the banging was replaced by a squeaking.

But there is no strange vibrations... just the noise. Almost like driving over small rumble strips but not quite that loud.

Before I take it to the dealership (I have a honda car warranty) Id like to know what you all think my problem is.

Thanks! Cale

btw... Im pretty hard on my car, I track her alot, but I dont lauch her. I have a stock drivetrain, but alot of suspension mods, including some pretty stiff coilovers... my car is less than an inch lower than stock... but I used to be about an inch and a half lower for about 5000 miles.

I'm going to guess a bad CV joint or a busted diff tooth or two. Maybe even the LSD.

sounds like what i had, except you couldn't hear it until i was slowing down to a stop. i replaced the diff and the noises went away. i'm starting to get the random creak noises when starting from a stop again, so i'm going to change out the diff fluid and hope it goes away.

what can I do to check each of these? My cv boots are intact, I know that doesnt mean much but might help a little.

another question... Is it true that honda doesnt cover the diff? I was gona get gears, but now I need to get this taken care of first... I dont want to send Hardtopguy a bad diff

Plus I have a big event I wanted to run in on the 8th... Ill do pretty much whatever to get this taken care of before then.

Thanks for the responces everyone!

Cale,

That sounds different than my wheel bearing noise but it was coming from the drivers side wheel, it would go away if the car cooled down and come back when driven hard and warmed up.

Check the torque on the axel nut first, mine was loose and may have made the bearing go bad, 36MM socket 220Ft Lbs

You're right. "Intact" doesn't mean anything. CVs self destruct from the inside. You can check it for excessive play in all directions but if you don't know what a good one feels like, this won't mean much to you, either.

Kinda depends on what's wrong with it and how it got that way.

Plus I have a big event I wanted to run in on the 8th...
Unless you can determine exactly what the problem is, this might not be such a good idea.

You need to have the car checked out by someone who knows what they're doing. Noone over the internet is going to be able to tell you what's really wrong with you car.

Can you swap axles side to side? Might try swapping the axles and see if the sound follows the axle.
