Hey Florida guys, I have a favor to ask
There is a guy in Davenport Fl. selling a supercharger on Ebay. He did the "send some payment now" gesture over the phone and then I asked if I could come pick it up and he said that would be fine. I'm wondering if someone would be willing to go buy the supercharger for me (I will pay you the funds of course to do so
) and I'll throw in 100 dollars for the trouble! I just want an honest 3rd party to be able to buy it so I won't get screwed out of any money.
Here's how the phone call went: His car was totaled and his insurance has already paid for the car, and supercharger so he just wants to get rid of it. I made him an offer he couldn't refuse and he said that that was cool, and to send partial payment through western union since his paypal address isn't confirmed yet (he gave a story about how he's a firefighter yada yada). I said I was skeptical about paying that way because I could never hear from him again and offered to go down and pick it up, but he wants me to do that within the next 4 days (that's how long his re-listed auction has left). BTW, he has 0 feedback. Eventually he said his boss needed him and he'd call me right back, it's been 15 minutes and I haven't heard anything. He may have realized I wasn't going to fall for anything dumb and bailed, but in the case that he is honestly selling the thing, I am thinking of trying to call him back later today and see if he'll go for one of you guys going to pick the thing up. I will not only pay for the price for you to buy the supercharger up front, but I will give you the money to ship it in full and an extra 100 dollars for the trouble.
If anyone is interested, let me know or give me a call at 404-242-5498.
Thanks a ton,
Justin

Read that link.
Justin, it's probably in your best interest (and for everyone else) that you buy a legit supercharger from a either a trusted S2KI vendor or member, or directly thru COMPTECH or VORTEC.
I've never trusted EBAY-hell, I wouldn't even buy a replacement antenna from a person on EBAY!!
Good luck on your supercharger search.

Yeah I realize enough not to actually send western union payment. I was asking questions about the kit to see if he actually knew anything about it. He even said he was including a tapped oil pan so I knew he at least had knowledge about it. He also said it would be fine for me to come down and get it. If he was trying to scam me, why would he let me get it in person?
I figured I'd post here in the event that he calls me back and agrees to this I could get one of you guys to go get it from him as a 3rd party. I'm going to try calling him back but I knew from the start that this could possibly be shady stuff - showing all the signs of a scam. He still hasn't called me back, and I even sent him a text message. He probably realized I was too smart to get any money out of and bailed.
Buying directly from the source isn't an option for me, not because I can't afford it but that I feel that 5 thousand dollars is not worth what you get for the price. I am looking for a used unit, and have had nothing but horrible luck. I struck a deal with a guy in Pittsburgh selling here in our FS forum and he said to call him back 3 days after he closed his FS thread selling to me, and it's been over a week since I've heard from him. I still call his work every day and he's never there. I don't know wtf is going on.
Other people have offered to sell me kits here off of s2ki but they're incomplete. I'm considering buying one, but if I really want to piece something together I'd go for a pieced turbo kit.
Oh well... this supercharger buying thing is tough to do

Ask the seller more qualifying questions:
What size pulley is it running right now?
Is it aftercooled?
Is it "roots" style? if he answers yes then run
Is the FMU progressive?
etc
etc
Just ask more questions to make sure he knows what he has and to make sure you know what you are getting. If he hesitates or says I dont know, ask him how come he doesnt know. Most SC owners do )or should) know quite a bit about their system.
post the link to the auction your buyer has running. 0 feedback is bad for such a high dollar item.

Walk from this deal. It has trouble written all over it. Davenport is a little tiny spec of a cross roads town just north of Haines City. I know it sounds alot like like profiling, but if someone in that neighborhodd had a FI S2K, we'd know about it.
It's about 45 minutes from my house and maybe the same from folks in Tampa. Possible the same from the Orlando crowd. My point is he is right in the middle of nowhere I would find it hard to believe that we would have never run into someone who put this mod on his car and then did not come to play with the rest of the S2K community to show off.
BUT.......if this does prove to be a legit offer, PM me and I'll try to make it over on Thursday night to see what the deal is. It is the soonest that I could get there. Maybe I can get some other S's to come out and play. It is only about 10 miles south of the British Pub that we ate at on Hwy 27 & I-4 from our last group drive. We take the boring I-4 drive to see the S/C and then we run the Group Drive backwards heading back to Tampa !!!
Ben, Quarters, Jvrabel, anyone.....????

I found the supercharger in question. I've never met anybody from the Davenport area who has/had an S2000, nevermind a supercharged one.
I'm surprised that the owner has never made it out to any of our meets.

I'll take your word for it zacksdad, thanks.
It's wierd though, the guy was extremely polite and well spoken. He said he was a firefighter and bought a new M5 using some of the insurance money that he got from the totaled S2000. I did ask questions about the kit, and he knew all of them. He said he had the stock pulley and an 11 LB pulley that he'd throw in. He said he had a Spearco radiator and pre-tapped oil pan. I called because I wanted to see if I could trap him, but he knew everything about the kit. He said it's also brand new, had only been on the car for two weeks and still had a warranty registration card that he'd not filled out yet so the buyer could get a warranty in their name.
I just called again and he didn't answer this time. He probably screened the call and saw it was my number. I left him a polite, but stern message saying that I think he's doing a horrible thing ripping people off, and called him out on how he didn't call me back because he bailed once he figured he wasn't going to get any money from me easily.
Anyways, thanks for the heads up guys.

Send his number to the local authorities, or since it crossed state lines, to the FBI.
You likely won't get much of a response, but one scammer from Sarasota disappeared after I reported him to every agency I could think of.
