What is the porous block problem?

Has anyone personally experienced the porous block problem? What's it all about and how did you deal with it.

My wife's car had this problem. I posted the story on the other board some time ago.
It was basically a very slow leak of coolant, seeping through a small portion of the block. Too little to even drip on the floor, as it dried befor it made it to the floor. The honda Tech noticed it when I had it in for another service. It might not of ever effected the performance of the car. Better safe than sorry, Honda put a new Short block in her car.(from the head gasket down)

And there was another that had a small oil seep from the head and wound up getting Honda to replace the head as a result.

To bad Honda had to find this problem when the car had 5000 miles on it. I would have rather had an engine replacement at 35000 miles.
