Default Import Speed Reg

Hi to all you import owners,

Can anyone advise on having the speed regulator changed/adjusted? Has anyone had this done?

Hi Alison

Whilst I am sure it is terribly un-p/c to even comment - it's very nice to have a lady owner on the Uk board.

Re. your question, I am not going to be off too much assistance I am afraid . I assume your car is Japanese spec and therefore limited to 180kph?

If this is the case, Tokyo James ( one of our Brit. members living in Tokyo) commented on this this very am! - and apparently it is very straightforward to remove the limiter.

As a matter of interest, what happens when you hit the speed limiter? Is it like hitting the rev limiter?

Good luck and let us know how you get on

That was what happened on my FTO, 130 on the clock and the engine feels as though it cuts out which is not a nice feeling.

My Jap import MR2 was speed governed to 110 mph when I bought it. I insisted on having the governing removed before I picked it up. I'm assured it was a very simple procedure as the limiter is electronic and I'm failrly sure it was activated simply by the speedo needle hitting 110 mph (In any gear btw). It sems to be a very simple electronic 'trigger' you shouldn't have any trouble getting it disconnected!

I've not reached 180km'h yet - so don't know what it will feel like, I guess like when the engine is not fully warm and stops your progress.

I saw some wiring thing on a tune up website for this point - actually looked quite expensive for what it is (relatively). I will see if I can find it again unless James jumps in with some solution.

Alison - is your dash just showing Km/h. Unfortunately mine won't switch to mph at a touch of a button like the UK models

I have not had the limiter removed either..... I have been told however, that it is a very simple thing to have done, here in Japan, though whether the UK tune shops will know what the Japanese do I am not sure..... I was told it was just some by-pass wiring that was needed.

I will check with one of my friends, he has his Supra de-restricted after he shipped it to the UK. He may be able to help.

Alison,

have you had the change done from KMH -> MPH ?? As with Kobe, the switch on the dash does not change the display for mine......

If you have any specific questions that you think I might be able to help with feel free to PM me....

James
