Default noob audio question

Hey guys,

Time for some more stupid questions!

I currently have a clarion head unit in my car. I just got a new alpine unit as a xmas gift and I'm wondering what I need to install it.

Im assuming that the wiring harness should be the same, and I dont need one specific to the alpine right?

Do I need anything else, and how hard is this install?

u can use the same harness. u need wire to pull out the radio door and frame (hook the wire thru the vents above the door). U need a wire cutter and stripper, either a soldering iron or crimps. electrical tape. phillips screwdriver. I think thats it.

Well I got off my ass and tried to do it right now since I can't sleep. Of course, my dumbass doesn't have anymore crimps and I can't get to a soldering iron right now. I will have to wait till the morning to go buy some more.

I just pried the cover off with a screw driver. It came out really easily.

Anyone know where I can get a new aftermarket harness(see below) locally? Radio Shack? Circuit City? The wires on the one I have right now are really short so I want to buy a new one to save myself some headache.

aftermarket harness

Thanks guys!

Need a little more help guys.

So I finished splicing the adapter wires and alpine wires together save for two. I matched all of the colors to each other but now I dont know what to do with these non color matched wires. Am I supposed to just leave them alone?

Please see pictures below:

Please help.

The blue wire from the Alpine is, as noted, the power antenna.
Your honda harness should have a matching blue wire, and this
needs to be connected for your amplified antenna to work.
the blue/white wire from the alpine is the amp turn-on lead. if
you're not using an amp, put a little electrical tape over the end
to insulate it and leave it unconnected.
black wire on the honda harness is the ground - should be connected
to the alpine ground.
my memory is that the orange/white dimmer wire is not used on
most aftermarket headunits, so just insulate it with electrical tape
and leave it unconnected.

IIRC, you're wrong the P antenna is for POWER antenna, a signal for the motor to turn on a telescoping antenna (which i havent seen in a new car in 10 years). That one you can leave alone. the OEM honda signal wire is black with a coaxial (looks like RCA) connector.

The black can be spliced with the blakc one from the harness OR grounded to a metal screw in the dash opening (i'd just splice it to the black honda wire though, for simplicity sake).

the REM is for a Remote amp turn on. if you dont have an external amp, you can leave this one alone too.

This is wrong. If you don't power the antenna you don't get AM reception...this has been brought up plenty of times in electronics.

Here's a link discussing the power antenna
