I tried the built motor route. Spent well over $15k to try to get max NA power. I was told to expect something around 285 RWHP, which is probably achievable with the right builder. Mine was definitely not the right one ... I only saw a net of under 20 RWP ... but that is another story.
I ended up going with a Comptech supercharger with aftercooler set up on a new F22c. Required an oil cooler to keep on track temps reasonable; though it prooved to be a reliable track setup.
Last year I started W2W racing with in the local MPRA series, some local SCCA and NASA. The super charger hits me as hard for classing as a turbo, but it doesn't deliver the same low and mid range power.
After about 6 months of weighting options I've decided to switch my dedicated track car to turbo for next season.
I looked at a lot of different options for the turbo. Heat management and reliability were two significant considerations together with a focus on going with a well proven system. I've done enough $$$ experimentation and did not want to go that route again.
I couldn't find anyone competiting in W2W with turbo S2000 or even anyone competiting in time trials or regular HPDEs with one, so I ended up going with what by most all accounts has proven to be a reliable street and drag racing setup -- yeah, drag racing an S2000 makes NO sense to me either ... what a waste of a perfectly good track car! The InlinePro kit had good positive reviews and after some research and discussion I came to the conclusion that the cast iron manifold was actually a good option to help with the heat and reliability of the turbo on a track car.
I'm sure other custom setups could be built up, but that would too likely lead me down the $$$ experimentation path.
I'll update this thread with more details and my impressions once the turbo is in and I get it out on track next year.
cbender tracked his Speedcraft car pretty regularly, albeit at a low boost setting. (around 300whp) I've worked on another Speedcraft car that saw plenty of open track days, but on 17psi+.
I'd recommend a liquid cooled BB turbo, and keeping your oil cooler. I'd also insulate everything around the turbo from the heat.

How reliable is a 17+ psi track car? How is drivability? I'm guessing that he had a good 450hp+. Was he able to put down that kind of power on the track?

Not near as reliable as 300whp. 22psi was the race gas map. It would spin pilot sport cups at the top of 3rd gear with WOT. You will break things with that much power driven hard. (525whp)
We used foil backed fiberglass as well as Aeroquip firesleeve on the hoses.
