Default Selling my S2000 - Dilema!

Ok guys, here's the dilema. Some of you may have seen my S2000 ad in the forsale section - it's been posted for quite some time. The main problem is the Veilside body kit. I know this is very subjective and is a large part of what the car is. I loved it when I bought it, but honestly I don't like it at all anymore.

I've really only posted it for sale on here and once on ebay. Before, I had no obligation to sell it. It was more of a feeler and if I could get my asking price, then I would. Now it doesn't get driven, I don't like the way it looks, and I am ready to buy something much nicer and more upscale. It's time for it to go.

So the deal breaker is the body kit. I could have it put back to stock body wise. I have the oem front and rear bumpers already, so that's a plus. The negatives are that the wing is drilled into the trunk lid thus meaning I would have to have it filled and repainted. The rear fender flares are in question. I'm not sure how they are installed, but would imagine some type of adhesive was used. I have to have my body shop take a look, but I fear that the paint underneath may be damaged and would have to repaint the rear quarter pannels. Sooo...do I spend more money and put it back to stock? Or do I decrease my asking price therefore allowing the next owner to take it upon thierself?

I am asking $25,000 right now. What are your thoughts on the price? I am thinking that it may be a little on the high side. If I took the body back to stock, what should the price be?

If you have any ideas or thoughts, please throw them out!

Here's the for sale ad along with a list of everything that has been done:

IMHO, the price is too high for a 6 yr old car, regardless of miles.

You can buy a 2003 with <20k miles for <$20k.

It's well documented that modded cars sell for only fractionally more than their unmodded counterparts. Who knows why that is?

Kelley Blue Book has "good" condition trade in listed at $13.5k for an 00 with 29k miles. Private party listed at $15.4k.

Start parting the car out now.
You could get $2k for the charger, $1k for header and exhaust, $1k for wheels, and ? for the stereo.

You could parts swap the trunk with someone for ~$200 or so.

I don't think it's the body kit that's "preventing" a sale. I think it's the overall price.

If you parted the car out except for the body kit, and sold the car for what a stock body S2k would go for... I'm sure you'd find some 20 yo to buy it because it looks "different."

Stock = $15k, Parted mods = $5k.
I estimate you'd have a buyer if you sold your car as is for $20k.

Winter isn't a good time to sell.

But you could just go to MAACO and have the car painted pink for $500 and sell it for $45k as a 2fast2furious replica....

And even though I'm giving you a little crap for the price, I really do like the way your car looks.

I don't think you need to convert the body to stock. I just think you need to be realistic about the price.

Why don't you post a feeler at $20k? You were asking about $22k and no interested parties.

Excellent car IMO except for the wing. I have always liked the Veilside kit. You might want to come down a little in price.

Thanks for the input. I have no problem with you giving me crap about the price. I shouldn't call it crap because it's true.

I would really hate to start parting it out. I would have to get new wheels as I sold the oem one's some time ago along with the air box. I may end up droping the price to around $20k.

i suggest parting the stereo and wheels, because those items are more marketable (can fit any car!) and retain more value

dump the body kit. yech. do the repaint deal - probably a good time to get dents pulled and everything else so it'll took top notch

keep the speed mods - saves hassles for some people who dont want to do the work themselves (especially going FI)

in my OPINION, thats the way to maximize value for you and increase the appeal of the car

Honestly, short of the rear wing, not a bad looking car.

You're much better off parting the car out and then selling it as close to stock as possible.

I'm a relatively "old" guy. I'd take one look at you car and never consider it even for $12000 as is. The supercharger tells me the engine's life has been halved (true or not, just subjective). Also the mods wouldn't suit me at all. The visuals> Kind of like seeing myself in pants that hang below my ass and sneakers without laces. Perhaps a gold chain. Just wouldn't suit at all.

I'm not bad mouthing your car...just saying that you are severely restricting your market to: people who have exactly the same taste as you. Also your age range is restricted to folks b/w 16 and 22. Most of this particular market doesn't have the money to spend for what you're asking.

You'd broaden the market for the car significantly by making it less "special."

I.

I think you could find a person to sell it to easier if you put it back to stock and lowered the price, but i think if you are patient enough and lower your pricea little you will be able to find some body to buy if from you. Good luck man.
