Why?
Giga MP3 + USB port = monthly DVD change
5v Preouts
Decent configuration settings
Had a similar model in my EP3 that I loved. Listening to the same DVD for weeks on end and never hearing the same song twice = priceless, especially since the S2000 has TONS of cabin room for storing DVD/CDS.
I also was able to pick it up for just over $200 with Car Domain's 105% price match.
I have a set in my wife's 01 CR-V and the midbass is just phenomenal. Tweeters are perfect, not too harsh (at +0 attentuation), and blends very well with the mids. I expect plenty of output even with the top down on the interstate, something I can't do with the stock system.
Total Spent = $650 (I have wires, fuses, and all the other general install stuff, otherwise it would be about $700 total)
Edit:
Any suggestions on tweeter placement? I've seen some in the door, a-pillar, and some on the dash. At the moment I'm leaning towards the a-pillar.
IMO, keeping the tweeter as close to the woofer as possible is ideal. If you get them too far apart, it separates the sound too much. Kick panels work great but there isn't much room in the s2000's anyway, so why take up even more room? My vote would be for the door.
Since when is the AVX2 $500? I think you can get one online for ~$350-400ish. And the screen is actually a very readable screen.

That's my point, the JVC DV6200 is $200 (after I got the price match on Sound Domain) and does what I want it to. I agree the other screen is probably more readable than the one I'm ordering, but I just can't justify the additional $150-200 that it would cost. Thanks for the suggestion though, I thought about getting the AVX1 when I got my last JVC HU. I decided that it just didn't have enough features to justify the additional price even though it's pretty nice. The main thing I want is the Giga MP3 feature and the 5v preouts which the cheaper model does just fine. Again thanks for your suggestion
If you are looking for mass storage, why not get an iPod? I got my 60GB video for $250 used in the For Sale forum. That mixed with my Alpine iPod adapter (or Full-Speed connection if you got a new Alpine HU) makes for a helluva lot of music, with no need to ever change / rip discs.
What is the big deal with the 5V pre-outs? Most amps only have inputs for up to 4V.....some go up to 8V, though. You are basically going to be getting the same sound quality from a 2-4V pre-out as you will a 5V, as long as the amp is tuned correctly... The larger pre-outs will result in louder sound at any given input signal level on the amp, but it should all be tuned to the same (amps input should match pre-amp output).
Just another suggestion. I understand if you want to stay with JVC.

I don't care about the preouts so much as long as they're around the 4-5v range. It's a selling point for me because it means I can adjust the gains on the amp lower without risk of extra noise getting amplified as well. Even with the best install it happens sometimes. I hope it doesn't but in case it does, it's a feature that's there in my favor already.
An iPod / mp3 player would be nice, but I'm happy with ripping a DVD once a month in the mean time. Maybe one for my birthday in March if my family or wife gets the subliminal hint that I'd like one, e.g. "I wouldn't mind an mp3 player for my birthday."
I can build the tweeters into your a-piller for you They'll look stock when I'm done. As for them being to far from the woofer, you'll just need to tune them a little more then if they were closer.

Here's a few pic's of the molded tweeters:

Wow that's nice. Link to a DIY?
I was planning on just taking the old circular saw and dropping them in assuming there is room in the pillar or door. Might give that a shot though if budget permits.
