Clicking...
Ok, I have a 2002 Ap1 with 37k miles on it. Earlier I accidentally shifted into 2nd from 5th. But As soon as it happened I shifted it back into 3rd. Now when I take off I hear a fairly loud clicking noise from the engine with the window down. I'm confused... It only does this at low rpms. I'd like to fix it between today and tomorrow. Any info would help. thanks
**also... when VTEC engages it feels like a tug of war match going on at high rpms 7-9k... back and fourth pulls and shit... its odd.

5th to 2nd?
How fast were you?
Did you hit the redline (and stay there for a bit)?
If you've mechanically over-revved and have begun hearing noises that were not there before... STOP DRIVING THE CAR IMMEDIATELY, I mean, you'd think that it would be instinctive to do so? Use public transportation until you get your car sorted out, or you will loose your car for much longer.
In other words, you are risking buying a complete new engine.
In fact, in the best case scenario, get your car towed to the dealership/shop. You need to get your valve retainers and valves checked.
(no, a "novice like yourself" cannot fix it.)

Before you get freaked out...answer that question for us. How fast were you going? That will help us tell you if you mechanically overreved.

Valves, I bet when you miss shifted, your valves got all out of adjustment!
I was going around 65. Don't ask, My gf is still making fun of me about this. As soon as I did it though I shifted to 4th. I've been telling my parents not to drive it cuz it is the valves and they dont believe me and their being stupid so I'm telling them not to drive it. But no1 listens to me. The thing is. It's not like it started doing that right after I f'd the shift. But when I did vtec it later on the way back home from 7-9k it pulled and shit. Honda dealership is like 10 mins from my house. This is scarying the shit out of me cuz I just got it a few months back.
Valves adjustment isn't hard to do if you know what you are doing. A mechanic shop might charge you $100-$200, but if you know some buddy of your that know how to do it properly it will only cost you a 6-pack of beers
You only do valves adjustment only if your car need it. I would suggest that you start up the car and closely listen for the tick and then rev the engine a little bit to see if you hear the tick or not. If there is no loud tick coming from the head then the valves adjustment is not a concern yet. I would looking at some other things. Just remember when you are trying to listen for the TICK...don't mistaken the tick from the injectors and the tick from the head since the injectors do make a little tick noise too.
Just like others had say.....how fast were you driving when you down shift from 5th to 2nd? I mis-shift mine at once time from 5th to 2nd instead of 4th driving at 62mph and as soon as the engine jerk and the rmp bouncing right at the redline i press the clutch back in and shifted into 3rd. You know that when we do that kind of thing we kinda get paranoid and thought that we somehow mess up the car. My first reaction was 'damn! i think i f**k up the valves!'. And so i called my brothers (one is a honda-technican and the other owned a tuner-shop) to have valves adjustment on my car. First thing that both of them asking was how fast was i driving, lol. Next thing they tell me was...drive the car home...don't listen to it right away but wait until the next morning so that way my mind would be clear up from thinking that i had f**king up the car
. Believe it or not....the next morning when i start up the car...the car sounded perfect as normal
