Default Hesitate acceleration & poor fuel consumption

Sorry for the vagueness of this thread but I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that my S seems to be ever so slightly hesitate to accelerate when either in 2nd or 3rd and when at lower revs (2000 - 4000rpm). It's not like I have no performance until VTEC kicks in, but I can just feel like the car is holding back slightly.

On top of that I've noticed that I'm not getting as many miles out of a full tank as I used to. This caught me out last week when I ran out of fuel coming home from work. I could easily get 250+ miles out of a full tank with all those miles done on urban roads. However when I ran out the trip metre was only on 220 miles. I know it doesn't sound a lot, but my drive to work never sees me hit VTEC and I'm a bit worried that the car is running too rich.

Could these two problems be linked in anyway?

So far I've reset the ECU (by pulling the fuse) to see if that made any difference, which is hasn't done. I have fitted a Spoon throttle body V1 about a month back, but this had been on for a few weeks before these problems started. I'm still running the standard air box and full exhaust system.

Any ideas where I could start looking to diagnose these problems?

Off topic I know but your avatar reminds me of the ED 209... You have fifteen seconds to comply..

Not sure on your problem. My knowledge of engines go as far as checking the airfilter is clean and the oil is topped up

I will admit to two things at this point as someone has mentioned fuel and ron ratings.

I only use 95 ron rated fuel in the S. I tired several tanks with Optimax and felt there was no benefit either in performance or economy, so I went back to 95 ron. And to make matters worse, I get my fuel from my local ASDA.

Let the ribbing commence.

Do you tap your back pocket twice as you walk off to the till?

Its probably your lambda sensor gone pop. It controls your open loop fuelling (ie on cruise or when not on VTEC) and has idle input.

When they failm they fail lean so the ECU adds much more fuel to richen it up.

Is your idle misbehaving too?
