Default Junkyard Special Kia 4.77 ring & pinion install

I decided to do a little write up on my junkyard supplied Kia 4.77 ring and pinion. The one I picked up is the front diff out of a 99 Sportage with low miles. I am going to attempt this without buying any extra parts (ducks) but that might change since this is my first time messing with a ring and pinion swap. I am hoping that between the two diffs I will have the correct combo of shims but if not my brother works at a machine shop so I can probly get something made. He is also in the process of making me a couple sets of 10mm driveshaft (axle) spacers for me and a couple friends. Anyways, heres some pics of my progress so far...

Here's what one looks like

One revolution here...

should equal a hair over 4 3/4 revolutions here

Remove these 4 14mm bolts...

then slide out the axle

Some 14mm bolts and 2 12mm bolts...

and apart she comes

count the teeth on the ring gear, should be 43

That's all for now, stay tuned...

the good thing about this is that the gears are already broken in!

if you reinstall them into another diff they have to be broken in again...or else you could blow them up...everytime you remove them they have to be meshed correctly...and they need to go through a brake in process...
