you have all done so well answering all my questions thus far I thought I would pose another one to you. In a couple months I am going FI by way of a Inline Pro turbo kit and will be shooting for the 400-450hp range... to get there on stock internals I will need to run a head gasket... I plan on using the Inline Pro 3mm HG as my solution. Question... when I go to install the gasket (I'm doing the install myself) will I NEED to remove the intake manifold from the head before taking it out??? Or can I leave them together? I have the Honda Service manual and it shows you removing the intake manifold but I also know that there are 100's of shortcuts and the service manual rarely shows them to you... so I am just curious if any of you who have installed a HG on the S2000 have done so without removing the intake manifold or if it is absolutely needed... (e.g. it will not clear the firewall and make head removal impossible)
I've never done it, but you should be able to remove the head with the intake manifold attached. You will still have to remove water and vacuum hoses, fuel lines, and supporting bracket bolts from the intake manifold. Its still going to be a pain in the a$$.
yeah thats kind of what I was thinking, I know it will be a pain but it will at least save me from having to unbolting the intake from the head those bolts are a CRAZY... and putting them back is worse.
Thanks for the reply! Anybody else have an opinion or tried this?
good luck with that, i got my spoon head gasket installed at my shop and is was a PITA to do. i took my intake manifold off b/c i installed hondata IMG at the same time.
Pull the alternator, serp belt tensioner, black intake support bracket (behind tensioner) If you're slick, you'll have those bolts out in no time. The intake will hold itself in place. As far as the bracket at the back drivers side corner, just loosen both bolts like 5 turns. Pull the intake back 2 inches to clear the studs on the head. Saves major time, and in my book it's so much easier.
hey guys before I remove my head I am planning on replacing the head bolts / studs with new OEM Honda replacements... I am trying to order them and don't know which parts are them... if anyone knows which ones I should replace please post it... the breakdown is below... I am replacing the head studs / bolts because I heard that they are a one time use item that stretch when tightened down and need replaced for the best seal of head to engine... thanks
I am soon to be doing this same operation, (2mm head gasket install). I was under the impression going with ARP studs over the OEM head bolts, was an "upgrade" so to say. Should I not bother with the ARP studs and just get the OEM bolts? What
