Default Disappointed in the S tonight...

Ok, to make a long story short me and a friend of mine have a rivalry going on. It's a friendly one but definetly competitive. We both bought our cars at the same time mine being a 02 S2k and his being a 05 Cobalt SS. We both enjoy racing our cars and "one uping" each other. He beat me from a roll stock for stock (just barely) so I got a test pipe and a drop in filter (yea i know basically no HP there) and I was able reclaim a S2k victory (again from a roll... from a dig Id eat him alive). Now to get to the point. I recently purchased and installed a reinforced comptech diff with j's 4.77 gears. I finally met up with him and was able to race him. Well, one thing he didnt tell me is that he spent $200 on an intake and beat me three times straight. WTF. I spend over $1k on a part and he spends $200 on an intake and his gains are amazing. Just makes me mad. I know my car is a MUCH better car than a super charged cavalier but still... just makes me feel like I wasted my time and money.

I am speechless. You should sell your car. Get yourself a Cobalt SS or SRT 4 and call it a day. Sounds like you bought the car with wrong expectations and information. Needless to say this but S2000 is not and was not designed for sraight line drag race.

You're buying/"wasting" money on car parts, for the wrong reasons...

Yea... I see where it stands now. I guess I thought the 4.77s would make THAT much of a difference like most people claim...blah.

It just ceases to amaze me, why people buy this car...to be a "Dragster"...... Really doesn't matter what you do to the engine, drive train....etc...??? You can put $20K in mods and you are still not going to do the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds..... Now...providing that you know how to really...handle your "S"....If you would measure the time that it takes you to get from one end of...let's say the "Dragon"....to the other, staying between the yellows, and the time that it takes your friend, in his Cav,,,, to get thru the Dragon.... then that is going to prove the better machine....!!! for what it was designed for.....

I agree 110% with what you are saying. Perhaps I just had my hopes to high on these gears and what they will actually do.

Don't be dissapointed, my friend.....You have 10 times the car...that your friend has....!!! I have been thru soooo many cars in my lifetime, and it has been a rather long life... I can tell you, thru "ALL" my British roadsters, and "ALL" my gas sucking, blown Chevys, my Charger, my Turbo "Z"...and down a considerable list of "Other"..point ( A ) to point ( B ) as fast as you can go machines...my "S" is by far..the most fun and well engineered little car, that I have ever owned...
