Most of the friends I have on S2Ki have been from Dragon events, so I thought it would be the best place to post. On Sunday, on my way home from church, I flipped the S and landed upside down due to the roads being damp and the rear breaking loose in a turn. I actually got out on my own, though it was quite tough, and have to say the S protected me from the roll. Alot of the details are fuzzy for me, but here's how I remember it. The sun finally poked out so the top was down to enjoy the morning drive. I was following a car as we started on the crest of the hill going down, I took my foot off the accelerator and had plenty of distance from the car ahead of me. Just coming out of the right turn, I felt the rear end swing out on me. I turned the wheel to the left to try to regain control of the car. I think the rear wheels found some traction, though very uncertain, and I remember seeing myself heading to the right shoulder, which was a storm runoff with huge chunks of rock. The right front dropped off the shoulder and thats about all I remember. I heard the loud noises, and then found myself upside down. Not sure at all how I flipped, or how many. I do know that when I realized I was upside down, I knew I hit my head. This big body didn't make it easy to get out, but you have to unbuckle the seatbelt first. I remember hitting my forehead on the rocky driveway, and used my forearms and fists to pull myself out. I did this before the guy who stopped in the opposite direction got to me. He told me I was bleeding pretty bad, so I sat on the guardrail. After 10 hours in the ER, I left with 8 staples covering one big and one little cut, and a very sore left shoulder with road rash. Based on what my nurse told me today would be like, I feel great minus the left shoulder and bump on the head. The part that totally stumps me is that neither the driver or passenger sides have any scratches on them. I don't think she will be totaled, but you never know. I will have to wait till I see her to figure that out. I feel very lucky to come out in the shape I am right now, I can deal with the pain, but no broken bones and no head trauma.
Rob, man I'm glad you're OK for the most part. It really is true: the car's replaceable, you are not. Hopefully your injuries will heal quickly and the S can be fixed up, too. We'll miss you at the Dragon.
If this doesn't demonstrate the safety built in to Honda vehicles, I don't know what does.
I am so glad to hear you are okay! Sorry about the S but rent a car and still come to the Dragon. There will be a lot of people who would be happy to let you ride with them. And it might ease the pain a bit.
