Default Improving airflow UNDER the hood

Take a gander at this DIY thread.

It has 3 articles spaced out down the page. Interestingly enough they ended up with some hood vents remarkably like the DIY mesh vents that have been posted here.

The underhood tray work was very interesting.

It really bolsters my thoughts on why you need to seal ALL the little cracks around the radiator.

Summary: You need to read the whole thing as there are too many little things that make a difference. But I'll give you the gist - Airflow is determined by pressure differentials not velocity of air.

You need to measure the differential to determine what makes a difference on your car and the proper placement for vents.

The DIY mesh vent thread looks a lot like what they did EXCEPT based upon their hood shape it isn't in the optimum place.

I'd love for somebody to come out with a whole underbody airflow management package that works with stock bumpers. And not in some silly high-priced dry-layup CF. Plastic, fiberglass or the like is all that's needed.

Sooooo based on this article.

What products for the S2000 are aero tested? (ie hoods, front bumpers etc)

From my unofficial testing by using strings and tape it appears that all the vented hoods have the vent too far back.

It is amazing how far back the Honda emblem creates a low pressure zone. So a lip on any vent ought to increase it's effectiveness quite a bit. That is unless it is already in a high pressure area.
