Default Cayman S replaces my S2000 - pics

New on the 8th June

Hope you like the few images of my new Cayman S

Finally my old car and new one side by side, until I find a buyer for the S2000

Its a totally different experience (obvious I know) but the S2000 I would describe as a raw sports car, the harsh noise of the engine, the permanently stiff suspension, the rear wheel handling and the option to drop the roof and experience the open air.

The Cayman S is refined with spacious cabin, fully adjustable sport seats, fully adjustable height and reach stearing wheel, smooth flat 6 engine and softer gear box with a nice light (relative to the S2000) clutch which makes start stop traffic a joy.

The Cayman S also has considerable more luggage space should that be important for a long trip for 2.

I have the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) which in standard mode is constantly adjusting the stiffness to make a relatively soft ride over bumpy roads, yet should you decide to push it in a corner, the springs stiffen to aid cornering. You can switch to sport mode and the springs go to the equivalent of the S2000 stiffness for ultimate cornering / handling, especially if you want to track it.

I have the 19" wheels and with the PASM they are a very comfortable ride.

With the S2000 you feel that you have to vtec the engine regularly or you are doing the car a disservice, yet while the Cayman S has 295BHP with about 245BHP at the rear wheels, I feels right cruising around, yet drop a gear and reach 4300 revs and a vario cam kicks in and it will power away, with a lovely howl from the engine.

I have dreamed of owning a Porsche for almost 30 years and the Cayman S has not only matched my dream it has surpassed it. I could not be more happier. I was very worried I would miss the ability to drop the roof, yet over the last weekend at the Bristol Honda treasure hunt, I did not regret being in the Cayman S. I have no desire to go out and drive the S2000, even though it is sat outside at the moment waiting to be sold. I would gladly just go out and cruise in the Cayman S all evening.

I know some of the Bristol S2000 lot will get a ride next time we meet and it will be interesting to see their reactions. I have not pushed the car hard and I have a Driving Experience Day in July at the Milbrook facility to learn how to get more out of the car and myself.

I just wanted to give you my opinion on this car and say that I will be staying an active member of the S2000 meets in Bristol (they have kindly agreed I can keep joining them.... especially if I continue to come last in the treasure hunts
)

I will also continue to use this forum as you are all a great crowd of people.

Sorry for the long post - Starlight

Having seen this car in the flesh I have to say it looks bloody lovely.

The pictures do not really do it justice (sorry James!).

I am really looking forward to a passenger ride in a few weeks time.

Congrats again James.

Be good if you could do a follow-up writeup in a few weeks to let us know how you're getting on with it.

Enjoy!

I think I need to sell a kidney, lung and some other bits its the first car i have ordered / had new and the 2 month or so wait was a bit of a killer but worth it in the end.

I spent many hours worrying about the colour but I have to say I am soooooo glad I did get it in white and I changed my wheel choice at the last moment before they locked the options and again I am so glad I did.

I will post better pictures in the future and do a follow up on how its going

Good!

I think anthricite or M3 finish wheels would make it look tough as nails.
