Thumbs up HELP! I Think My Wheel Bearing Is Shot!

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to see if you could help me find my problem:

When accelerating at slow or medium rates the car seems to have heavy vibration. When I accelerate really hard/fast, it seems to have minimal vibration. It seems as if it's just the front passenger side that is vibrating but who knows??

I thought this was happening because I needed to balance the wheels and tires but today I have replaced my stock wheels/tires to Enkei RPF1s 17x9 +45 and Bridgestone 245/40ZR17s all around which were balanced when they were mounted. Even though I mounted this new wheel/tire set-up I still feel the exact same thing.

Some friends have told me that the wheel bearings are shot so I wanted to ask you guys before I replaced them. What do you guys think???
Is there any way to upgrade this? Are there any aftermarket units that have any performance benefit??

Thanks in advance.

let's go for the obvious thing first, is the wheel hub centric?

if they are not, are you using the right kind of lugs? and putting them on lug centric? there's so many people with aftermarket wheels with a bad vibration solely due to it.

Vibration only when accelerating is a sign of a pitted inboard CV joint (it pits only on the side that gets the acceleration force so you don't feel it when decelerating). If you have an extended warranty, it should be covered. IIRC there's TSB on this so it *may* be covered but, since you have an '00, it may be too late. The cheap way to fix this is to simply swap the left and right cups so that now the pitted face is on the deceleration side on the right side of the car.

Well, although I don't know whether the wheels are hub centric or not, I doubt this is the problem due to the fact that I had this same problem with the stock wheel and tire set-up.

What are left and right cups??
I would like to try this but shouldn't I just replace the cups with new units??
Is there any way I can upgrade these pieces? If so, where can I buy upgrades?

Thanks in advance.

Remove the axles, and swap the drive buckets from axle to axle. There is no need or benefit to buying new parts.

Car will be good as new....I've done 6 or so bucket swaps myself.

Also, when the axles are ready to be swapped, you can spin them freely by hand, no resistance from the brake pads, so you can feel for notchyness. Before you take the wheels off, try to rock the tire/wheel back and fourth with your hands to check for looseness or play in the bearings.

They're just the outer piece of the CV joint.

It is the 'Inner CV swap' you can find a DIY in the DIY sticky at the top of the Under the Hood forum.

I did my inner CV swap with no luck on curing the vibration
