Default Check your soft top!

Hole in soft top

I am having my top replaced tomorrow at Earnhardt's. I noticed the exact same hole as in the pic two weeks ago and it has doubled in size since then. Seems like this may be a widespread issue but Honda is seemingly not aware of it (no TSB). I know Neutered Sputniks has the problem too. FYI, my car has only 28k miles, is always garaged at home and under covered parking at work and I condition the top regularly so this is definitely not caused by age, abuse or lack of maintenance.

Just check your top so if you have the problem starting you can take care of it before an actual hole develops.

easy fix. I bought a $4 bottle of RTV black silicone from Auto Zone and fixed it. If you do it right and with enough patience, you can not even tell... I'm not talking "cant even tell" as in yeah you can kinda see if you look at it... i mean "cant even tell" in the sense that my neighbor asked if I got a new top because the hole was gone.

I dropped my S off at Earnhardt's just a while ago, they're going to replace the top for me. Apparently Kirk made it in with his shortly before I dropped mine off...

It seems that Earnhardt is willing to cover the top replacement if you're still under warranty. Not sure about if they're covering it out of warranty, but still worth a shot.

Mine has a definite hole on the passenger side, and a crease on the driver side where it was about to be worn through.

I had 28k miles on my ap2 and had the same problem. I had my top replaced and the problem was re-occuring. I learned that they fixed the hole but not the problem. The problem starts on the rear bar of the soft top. The edge of some bars in certain areas are sharp instead of rounded so when you lower the top completely, the bar compresses on the soft top. It's a total random situation that the edges are sharp but that's what causes it. I had my cloth replaced two times until i found the "real" problem myself. I also did what duality did because i didnt want to go through the hassle again.

Make sure you have them replace the bars not just the cloth.

Just got my S back from Earnhardt's a few hours ago. 30k mi maintenance, soft-top replacement, and hand wash in 24hrs.

Don't let them talk you into the Aveo as the rental car though . I wound up paying a $10 up-charge to get an Altima for the day instead of the Aveo...

What I noticed is that the rearmost bar tended to get stuck (due to the tautness of the fabric) at the corner while the top was moving up or down. I haven't looked to see if the bar is sharp or not.

Wow...I feel a lot better now. I had mine replaced about a year ago, and honestly have always wondered how the hell it happened. It was replaced under warranty at Earnhardt's.

Crazy.
