Default Exhaust Info

If the snow is gone tomorrow I will hit the Dyno...

For those who want this exhaust - IT IS LOUD. VERY LOUD.

For most people, (except TAM S2 hehehhe) you will need to change your driving style.

Best description that I can manage:

1000rpm - 2500rpm = low rumble (idle, mild throttle)
2500rpm - 3500rpm = medium rumble (mild throttle)
3500rpm - 5000rpm = medium burble (mild throttle)
3500rpm - 5000rpm = loud burble (WOT)
5000rpm - 6000rpm = turns into a wailing sound, a la DC Sports (WOT)
VTEC on - 7500rpm = pitch goes WAY UP, sounds like a BIKE (WOT)
7500rpm - REDLINE = all you can hear is the engine wail, but through the tailpipes (WOT)

The engine winds up faster so you had better shift before smacking the limiter. If you hit the limiter at WOT with this exhaust, you will get very loud popping out the pipes - like very rapid backfiring. I've experimented with different sized post-cat resonators, and the one I've settled with pretty much eliminates 99% of the fire out the pipes that I encountered with some of the others I've tried.

To keep the exhaust quiet - you will have to drive very mildly. Remember, there are NO MUFFLERS! With MILD driving, my car is almost silent, yet VERY driveable.

I will be going to the meet on Thursday, so if anyone wants to see/hear it in person, that will be your chance.

I spent approx. $2500-$3000 experimenting to get it to sound the way I wanted, and to give the gains I was looking for. (Various resonators, chambered, non chambered, and different pipe diameters)

I went for performance + sound over looks. It WAS going to be a single pipe, single tip system, but some people carried on too much about how they didn't like the single tip designs. This is the best I could do for a dual pipe system, while maintaining a "stock" look (to keep attention from Mr. Police Officer at a minimum).

Anyways, I guess I am aiming for $1070 installed, taxes in, mandrel bent - aluminized steel, fitted to YOUR CAR using factory hangers and it will require cutting the cat back flange off your stock exhaust. You can keep your stock exhaust if you want. It is light, less than 1/2 the weight of the stock exhaust and it will not rust unless you scrape it up. Clearance is approx 0.75" higher than the factory exhaust at the lowest point so lowered cars, no need to worry. The shop has been around for quite some time and has a very good reputation. They will guarantee the installation. It takes approx. 2-3 hours for installation, but the shop is VERY BUSY. Be prepared to leave your car there for most of the day.

I will recoup approx $50-$75 per system sold and installed by the shop so I am not in this for profit. I did this for myself because currently there are no exhaust systems that have the sound that I like with the (felt) gains that I was looking for. The only one that I actually liked was the Tanabe, but after about 1000km, it started sounding "tinny". I will EVENTUALLY have one made, full stainless, ONE PIECE but I have NO ETA or price on this.

Next projects are:

1. re-do the intake (mid-late april)
2. turbo (mid-late may)
3. clutch (june-july)

All three will be custom work, readily reproducible by three reputable shops.

Peace.

(PS: All I am trying to say is that I am doing this for FUN, so don't come crying to me if you get a ticket for ANY REASON! Hehehhe... I already drove past many cops on the road and I haven't got as much as a third look [I always get a second look!])

Rahul, this sounds great.

I should be at the meet on Thursday if I get back in time. Do you have any pics yet?

actually, the street address might be dixon rd...

i'm not sure of the address, but i've been there a million times.

for example, from downtown, i take 427 north and then get off at the exit with airport "sign" (i can't remember if it's airport rd. or dixon rd.).

in any event, airport turns into dixon and vice-versa.

generally, it's just east (about .5km) of the 427 on dixon/airport on the south side.
