The knob was solid aluminum when I got it. I drilled it, tapped it and countersunk it as low as it would go - a la Voodoo knobs. I'm really happy with it, the throw weight is perfect, and it's pretty comfortable too.
I don't remember the guys name who makes them, I'll find it tonight when I get home from work and post it then.
