Where did you get your oil changes done? They usually have a log on what services they did for your car. They have to keep records of any transactions you had for at least a year. They usually just reference your license plate.

Good luck.

keep a log and have two witnesses sign it each time you change it (or whatever your state law is). it should help out if it goes to court.

You only need to prove that you did what was required under the "normal" schedule.

I looked at your recorded mileage, and converted it to miles (what I'm familiar with). Even if you didn't change your oil at those intervals, you would have still changed your oil often enough.

To deny you warranty coverage is BS!

S2K-Repgentigny, how awful.

Here is a thread about engine failures. It will lead you to lots of information, much of which you probably don't want to hear:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...ock+replacement

Was your oil okay when the engine failed? American Honda Motors has denied warranty replacement of some engines when the engine was extremely low on oil when the engine failed, perhaps only one quart left out of five.

I think you need to document oil changes somehow, but if you maintain that you did the correct changes, and if you were okay on oil when it failed, I think you will get it fixed under warranty.

The cost is horrible otherwise. Replacing the short block costs about USD$11,000. If it also needs a new head, that is a couple of thousand dollars more.

I think the thread I posted above gives good evidence that the F20C can be defective.

Keep us posted on exactly what failed and how the Canadian Honda folks respond.

By the way, I now have a 7 year/70,000 mile warranty on mine and I plan to have all the oil changes done by the dealer, just to be sure. One unlucky board member had his engine fail after a dealer damaged an oil filter during an oil change. The dealer had to share the cost for the engine repair with AHM.

Thanks for the response.

You are the FIRST PERSON to report that your warranty claim was being questioned based on documenting the recommended oil changes. Others here have had their claim questioned based on low oil at time of failure, but not on undocumented changes.

It seems likely to me that the #4 cylinder failure has to do with a manufacturing problem. Most likely this affected a group of engines that were built during the summer of 2000 and put into late 2000 and early 2001 S2000s. I believe that there are two different piston part numbers and the newer piston number part goes into a newer short block that does not have the problem the early ones do.

No one has had the short block replacement and then had another failure. However, our list only includes 26 short block replacements and the failure rate, as far as we know, is below 1%. However, I think all the replacement short blocks are the newer version and are not likely to fail.

Your problem will be covered by warranty. Get the documentation of oil change if you can. However, if you can't, I think this list gives you plenty of ammunition to show Honda of Canada or the courts that this is a manufacturing problem. Don't forget. Mine failed at 650 miles with the same problem as yours. Mine was not low on oil, like yours.

I would like to see Honda provide a "hidden warranty" beyond the 36 month 30,000 mile warranty, to cover this specific failure.
