Default Track Addicts (current or future)

SCDA has posted their 2008 schedule of events. Your S2000 does NOT need a roll bar or hard top for New Hampshire (NHIS) or Watkins Glen (WGI).

NHIS is a 1.6 mile road course with 12 turns. WGI is 3.6 miles with 12 turns. They also offer Lime Rock (LRP) events but those DO require either a roll bar or a hard top for S.

Students must be at least 18 years of age, and posses a valid drivers license in order to attend. Snell 95 Rated Helmets are required for all participants. Full or open face but must be SA rated, not MA. SCDA has several Snell 95 Helmets that you can borrow (if that idea does not totally creep you out). Long sleeved shirts and pants must also be worn.

http://www.scda1.com/schedule/

SCDA events are strictly driver education, not competition so are covered by many car insurance companies (check yours of course) It is unlikely you will do worse than run off course onto grass or spin. You are far more likely to have a serious problem if you push your car on the street.

NHIS events:

Monday, April 14
Tuesday, May 27
Monday, July 14
Monday, August 18 (Day after Nor'Easter)
Monday, September 22
Thursday, October 16

2007 rates were $250 per day.

WGI events:

Monday, April 28
Tuesday, April 29
Monday, October 27
Tuesday, October 28

2007 rates were $265 per day.
(Discounts for 2 day signup are usually offered)

LRP events:

Thursday, April 10
Tuesday, June 3 (Experienced Drivers Only)
Wednesday, August 13

It's more fun to attend these when you know other participants or make new friends there. I accost - I mean - meet and greet - all fellow S owners as soon as I see them

DEFINITE dates for me are:

WGI - April 28 and October 27
NHIS - May 27 and August 18, with September 22 a strong possible

Metro area is planning a Pocono Raceway track day that is open to all levels of drivers with no roll bar or hard top required. Those dates are Monday July 21 and Tuesday July 22.

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...&f=61&t=553212

I am tentatively signed up for Tuesday July 22, pending space and making payment - this is only $200 for a day. Track Novices are required to attend on Monday and will have an instructor. (Instructors are needed for this event obviously.)

If I earn more money this year I will be at more events Anyone else have time and/or interest in attending one or more? If you only make ONE try to make it to NH for August 18 for Nor'Easter when we should have 10-15 other owners on hand.

Am cross posting info to "other S web site" in NY/NJ forum.

Doug - appropriate to post in Upstate NY too?

Thanks Ellen. I am interested in this and will take a look at my schedule. I am less inclined to sign up for an April date due the high possability of rain and cold weather. The May 27 date looks more promising. I would love to go to WG, but the dates limit you to the early spring and fall. Are theose WG dates two day events?

Doug, are you aware of other groups who run the Glenn that would let us participate?

Ellen, COM has been to Pocono a few times. Flat and boring, frequently fogged out. Get a rollbar and run with us. We have a couple of S2000s that do our full schedule. NHIS 3x, Summit Point, Watkins Glen, Mt Tremblant (less than 2 hrs drive for you), Mosport and Calabogie. Our instructors are very good. We have corner workers and EMT ambulance people just in case.

Grove I'm thrilled you think I am so rich and successful however the SAD reality is that I don't have a month's salary to spend on a roll bar or hard top.

Granted I could put this on my credit card however I just found out I have to pay off my SBA loan for $7,000 and since I don't have that sort of cash laying around that is going to go on my credit instead.

In addition I have NO job right now so my only income is the sale of my Middlebury based business. It was not a huge fortune and not even enough to meet current expenses if I do not begin finding new customers and starting a new business here in Bennington.

On top of that I am living by myself now - ONE income not two. I still have all the same expenses - plus some - that I did when I had two incomes to pay bills with.

So unless you have some real and serious suggestions on where to magically make the roll bar or hard top or $2-3,000 appear - it ain't going to happen any time soon.

Thank you for the info on Poconos. I've watched several videos on youtube and it seems like it would be fun to at least try once. It's not that far from my house and my car can play there as is for very little money.

So far I've even been offered the use of "crashing at my parents house" however - like other people online here - I don't think he yet realizes I'm a girl

I'd love to make the hard top/roll bar requirement. However, I refuse to put a roll bar in my daily driver. I personally feel the increased risk of head injury during a non-rollover accident is too great. Hard top might be in the works for this spring, depends on a few other pending financial obligations.

Not sure what my schedule looks like for this summer as I just started the new job. Let me get settled in and I'll see what I can do for track events.

Anyone know about any NASA events up this way, or are they pretty non-existant?

---- FAQ ------
Basically, all you need is a safe car and an approved helmet. We get everything from Kias to Lamborghinis. Long-sleeved shirts, long pants and closed-toe shoes also are necessary. Cars do not have to be fancy, or even fast. Some tracks have noise restrictions, so be careful with loud exhaust systems. Roll bars are required in convertibles. The driver

I've never had an issue with NASA and my S. NASA is what I ran with back in PHX. Ellen, you should do NASA events, get into a DE1 class at WG and then come run Pocono with me in DE2 or 3 (not sure where I'll fit up here)

I'm going to do Poconos on July 22 assuming I get "in" -- it's a weird arrangement - you have to read the full post - there is a link in MY first post above.

There is a hierarchy of who is accepted and when, previous drivers get first dibs, it's with a miata club and there has to be 51% miata participation... something weird like that

I'd have to see how much NASA membership is as well and what their tech stuff is like. SCDA is pretty lenient with that - it's all self tech.

I am pretty loyal to my SCDA guys as far as the Glen goes Ian and the people I've met through his group have been really great....

Of course I have NOT met Doug in person yet I may change my mind about that How many more days til B&B???

NASA membership is $30/yr. Not sure about the track rates, I know it was $260 for the entire weekend at PIR

The S2000 roll hoops are strickly for show. very thin tubing held in by Grade 3 10mm bolts. It attaches to the body, not the frame. It is not accepted as a 'rollbar' by most clubs.
