Default AMSOIL Motor Oil

My car is coming up on 10,000 miles and I'm making preparations to switch to synthetic at that point. I've decided to go with AMSOIL but it looks like they have two 10W-30 weights and I don't know which one to buy. I'd hate to buy the wrong one and waste all that money or worse, put it in the car and develop problems later. The two that I'm looking at are:

ATM SAE 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil
and
XLT - XL 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil

I'm guessing its the first that I need but would like some confirmation. Thanks!

by the way, the webpage I was looking at for these oils is https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/SearchRes...?CategoryID=228

The ATM is their best oil IMO. The XLT is an excellent choice too. It will serve you very well for 7500 mile/1 year OCI's if you fall into the normal driving maintenance schedule. The ATM is a group IV PAO based oil and is designed for extended drains, and the XLT is group III hydro cracked based oil.

Depends on how long you want to go between changes to some degree. The XL series is not there really good stuff, don't get me wrong it is very good and would work great in the S but the ATM and even the SSO 0-30, 5/30 ASL are superior. I personally use the 5/40 AFL Euro formula. This is also speced for our cars it just meets the spec for a 40wt. so it is on the thin side of a 40wt. and flows very well. I found I have less valvetrain noise with the 5/40 and my mileage has stayed the same as when using 10/30.

Make sure you become a prefferred customer so you can purchase at the same price as the dealers.

I hear you on the valve train noise, But 40W all year round or just summer? seems heavy to me. Have you tried the german castrol 0W-30? it does calm down the noise and its a 30W, im on my 2nd fill and like it.

Is the SSO the same oil as the series 2000 0-30 I am currently running? I see it is no longer on their website.

Thanks. Any real difference? I still have a case or two of the series 2000 around.
