Default Comptech supercharger, a cracked head, and my concerns

Long read warning...

In this post I intend to post the facts of this situation as I understand them. Realize that some of this is 2nd hand and other parts are first hand from my being friends with Davepk, the owner w/ the cracked head.

My good friend David (user davepk here) has had a Comptech Supercharger basically since the beginning. Almost immediately he and SilverSurfer started having problems cracking all sorts of parts. Because of repeated cracking failures, both SilverSurfer and David made the 300+ mile round trip to Comptech at least 7 if not more like 10 times to have Comptech replace broken/sheered parts. At one point parts were cracking about once a week. Out of all of these trips Dave did not receive one dollar, parts or anything to compensate him for his time, patience, and nearly 3000 miles.

So recently Dave notices oil all over the front sub frame area. The crack at that point wasn't apparent and SilverSurfer was already going up to Comptech to get a new SC installed as his was -slowly- leaking oil. Dave went up too assuming that he just had a more severe case of the same problem. Comptech looks at the cars, replaces SS's Super Charger and tells Dave he has a cracked head. They show him a crack in the front of the head that starts at the lower vtec solenoid bolt and goes straight up all the way to the red valve cover. A specific Comptech employee then tells him to just JB weld it and it should be fine. For those that don't know the supercharger mounts one side to the same bolt holes that your vtec solenoid uses.

Dave takes his broken toy and tries to jb weld it multiple times yet it still continues to leak oil. He calls Comptech and their first response is along the lines of

I would like to hear what Mike at Comptech has to say about this.

man....sorry to hear this. Sounds like poor davepk's sc was the guinea pig. Without question he should of been offered some sort of compensation from Comptech.

This is really bad news. Dave DEFINITELY deserves a new head - not some reweld crap that will just break again.

Sidenote: funsdead, your car looks great!

JB Weld? You've got to be kidding me - shameless. This whole story just makes me shake my head... what ever happened to customer service?

Good luck Dave... I hope you receive what we all know you deserve.

I would be really interested to hear Comptech's responses.

I mean no offense to any of the parties involved, but we've only heard one side of the story. I will reserve judgement until both sides have had an opportunity to state their cases.

However, given the number of problems that David has and continues to have, I think I'll go into my search for performance mod's with eyes a little wider open.

JB WELD? these guys are idiots... how strong can JB Weld be?? sheesh,...
thats probably why not a lot of people buy the SC for the car... no warranty no service etc...
better off just to go with a faster car like the Z06. you can find a brand new 02 Z06 any color you want from Rick Daniel, the #1 seller of Vette for only 45k yup, DEALER INVOICE..
so a s2000 with SC would cost almost as much...
