What a fantastic day for a detail (and a little wrenching)! These pics are going to be all out of order for easier grouping, so forgive me I also ran out the photo limit, so I have plenty of other photos. If anyone wants them, PM/Email me and I can send you a ZIP of the originals or the smaller Web versions.
The S2ki Oregon Detail day has passed and we have 13 cars that are exceptionally clean (some moreso than they've ever been *cough* Amy *cough* )
Everyone got to learn a few tips and tricks, some wanted to practice their technique while others dove right into a whole new realm of "washing their car". Everyone was quick to chip in and help out on other people's cars to make sure we were able to get everyone done. Garret proved to be a resource of amazing "unknowns" with his canvas protectant and other tricks.
Thanks to Amy's lawn and storage areas, we were able to get a good process going with cars being washed all over the place in the grass. Unfortunately, with my cracked quick-release, it made for some unfortunate soaking. The foam gun was heavily used and made for some great suds with the soaps that Phil donated.
After the wash, the Claybar came out to strip the contaminants from the paint and leaving it very smooth. I think I recall Amy saying this was her new favorite step:
While the first batch of cars were being set up and people were being shown how to work the foam gun and start the claybar process, Huy, Marc and the gang were busy removing my exhaust and then swapping Brandon's with Doug's (thank you guys)!
After the Wash and Clay, Cars were moved into the Shop (and eventually the garage as well) where lessons on how to polish using the Porter Cable were quick to get people hooked on shiny paint. An assembly line with a polisher being followed by someone with a towel for buffing off, followed by a waxer, followed by another towel buffer made for very quick work.
Naturally, there was time for a delicous (and abundant) lunch!
Back to work! Brandon and John got to get their engine bays nice and clean:
Waxing is the final step for a great shine. Clay removes the particles, polishing removes the scratches and swirls, wax protects and brings out the glow!
When it's all done, after a long day, the end result can be astonishing!
We were also able to take a moment to thank Brandon for his work as a CO before he moves on. As I understand it, both you and Larry really turned this place around. Thank you Brandon!
All things being said, we had a great time, and it was a very successful day. As people have already posted, it's tiring, leaves you sore, but a shiny car like that can be worth it (for some) Now all of you can panic when I tell you that "normally" there is a LOT more to do to truely detail a car. Wheel wells, Tire-black (some did this), trim detailer, etc etc.
Even so, great job everybody. I'll be posting about this in the Wash & Wax forum as well as letting Wanabe know about the attendees so you all should be receiving Wacko badges soon. I know some of you are now interested in going that extra mile in detailing your cars. If you have any questions, you are welcome to email/PM/call me any time.
Thanks to everyone for making this an awesome Detail (and Exhaust) Day. I think everyone had a great time, even the 2 guys in the RSX's and the 1 BMW guy.

Thanks for coming over guys...I had a fantastic time and learned a lot about keeping my car shiny. Thanks for all the help and getting my car done first. My car have not been this shiny since the day I picked it up, as a matter of fact, it's shinier than when it was brand new. And thanks for bringing all the food over for lunch, it was so yummy.
My arms and wrists are so sore that I had to take some prescription strength Ibuprophen when everyone left.
Please PM me if you left any supplies behind and would like me to bring it when we meet for the Stonehenge drive.
Yes thank you very much Amy!! You were a wonderful hostess and your house is fabulous i must say! A big thank you to everybody for arranging this, bringing supplies, food, knowledge, and help! It was great to finally meet all you! It felt like i was at home with long time friends today. BTW I just got back <5 minutes ago
This trip was absolutely worth every mile of driving,
Thank you everyone, I had a great time this Saturday!
Special thanks to:
-Amy for hosting and providing such an awesome place! You house has like my dream setup!
-Aaron for showing some of us "wash and wax" noobs how to do it right.
-Garret for helping me remember what my exhaust's color used to be, and letting me follow you out w/o going through the construction zones. I meant to wave to you before we split up, but damn that sun set was bright, I couldn't see anything.
-Teresa for doing an awesome job on the interior. My arms, legs and back is so sore by that time, I wasn't sure if I was going to do it before the end of day.
Thanks again everyone for the awesome food, and array of supplies! I think I'm ready to take on this detailing myself next week!... err I mean next month! (need to go take some more pain killers)
What a blast!!! Thank you to everyone who came. Amy you were a great hostess and thank you for allowing us to have it at your beautiful home. Aaron great job organizing and teaching us the correct way to detail our cars.
It was great to meet and talk to everyone new old and eat, the great food and drinks everyone brought. Thanks for everyones help on detailing my car since I was getting tired after removing and putting exhaust systems on. For those who got a new exhaust I hope you enjoy it including you Brandon
