Default Bike Rack Warning

Now that nice weather is finally here I will be riding my bike more especially with gas prices being what they are. I ride in a lot of organized events including weekly rides with a local cycling group and in the past I had a Saris bones rack which had 2 rubber legs which sat on my bumper. The weight of the bike caused a gap between my bumper and rear quarter panel on both sides. I got some dings and a parking lot zinger repaired on the bumper this week and the body shop tightened up the bumper to close this gap. I now have the redesigned Saris bones rack which is much improved and it straddles the rear light and does not rest on the bumper. The shop told me that it is easy to do this as the brackets are not that strong and does not recommend any bike rack which sits on the bumper. I just wanted to get the word out since some of you may be looking into buying a bike rack in the future.

a little custom work goes a long way...

Delan makes the hitch search for ap1 2000-2003
a online place sells it for $150
cut a 2x4" hole no big deal

Sounds interesting. What is the model number or name of the redesigned rack? The Bones rack at the Saris website looks like the design I have seen for years.

Thanks, Marty

dont you have to be 42 to get a vintage badge? I'm only 41
no over the hill and 6 feet under... yet

not get a bike rack and ride
If you're 41, you're a year overdue for the badge.

The rack is the Saris Bones RS 3 bike rack. I couldnt find an actual model number on the rack. If you go to www.bikeline.com do a search for saris rack then click on the rack mentioned above. It will give you a full description and reviews of the rack. It got a 4.5 out of 5. The older model had these 6 straps which never stayed tight and it rested on the bumper. This rack has a ratcheting system which never slips. You can lock this rack to the trunk and even open the trunk with the rack installed. I got mine at Bike Rack near my home. It is a franchise so check for a location near you if interested.

Ouch! I too have an older Saris Bones rack (2 bike capacity) that I have used with my '99 Subie Forester and cherished '91 Bridgestone CB-0 (zip). I have flirted with putting it on S2K but never did. And since last Fall I have a Classic Carrier on it anyhow. Still, I never would have imagined the Saris causing issues with a S2K. Yowser.
