Default Just got my 4.77's installed and now my thoughts

Well I read for along time about all the hype of these gears and OMG, dont due 4.77, go 4.56 blah blah.. cause the .77 are too aggressive.

Anyways, A+ install job by my guys at Speedstar and it runs like a mint.

Initally I know right off the bat, the car rev's higher, at 120km/h with oem i was at 3900 rpm and now with the .77 it rev's at 4550 rpm so not that much higher. Although yes, gas is worse as you are reving consistantly higher.

The car does go threw the gearing quicker although I still wanted more but now I will say anyone that thinks you have to shift too much or these are way too much for daily driving has no idea what they are talking about (in a ap1). Or just maybe arnt used to a car with alot of power that just rips

I can see these gears with a charger or a bolt on greddy kit just being a A+ match.

ok, I have a ton of new crap to install so im out.

I picked up a ton more parts but ill make a thread in the gallery for that.

Ive wanted the 4.77's but I heard theyre only good from a dead stop, since once the speeds get up the power dies out, and youll have to be shifting alot more than the average driver, I raced my friends 02 with the 4.77's he was a car ahead till about 90mph where I started walking him. I still wanna drive a car with the 4.77s to see how it feels but ill probably end up doing the 4.44's since 80% of my driving is highway.

Well you should not at all pull on your pal though. Once he is ahead he should stay ahead till WAY up in the mph/mph range. Still no matter where you are in the range, you still have a shorter time till the next gear so you should still have a slight lead till again way up in the range.

Here's a newbie question for you... How much does it cost to change the ratios at a performance shop usually? And are you doing it with the stock tranny?

I actually forget what it's like to drive a stock S2K now without my 4.77s.

I feel the same as the OP, I don't think it's too "aggressive" for me, nor do I find I'm shifting constantly, nor do I find myself using twice as much gas as in the past.

Have a good time with your new parts!

I have the 4.77 from Hartopguy.com, the Puddymod from Puddydaddy, and a Quaife LSD in my AP1. This rear end is absolutely amazing. I have never driven a more solid rear than this one. The 4.77 seems quicker but with since I have not driven it on a road course I have no technical data to support it.
