Soft top tear issue with Honda rep
So basically I developed the ever so popular passenger side tear on my softop. I took it to my local Honda dealer which was Ebersole. The assistant service manager was extremely helpful and nice about the whole thing, and told me he would discuss it with his rep.
He calls back a day later and says the rep can do a 60/40 split....me paying the 40......which wasn't bad! But he told me the Honda rep was going to be there today so I decided to take a drive over maybe to negoiate a better deal, seeing as it is a design defect and i feel i should be compensated 100%
Right off the bat this guy is giving me the bullshit vibe, everything that comes out of my mouth he denounces and won't here any of it. I had pictures of atleast 5 differen't S2000's with the same exact tear and nothing. He told me " If i believed everything on the internet, i would be in the Bahamas right now". He then starts off on how he see's people with convertibles just throw the top back and forth and it causing tears. Except for one thing, the S2K is a power top! This guy didn't even realize the S2K had a power freaking top, and he's supposed to work for Honda? I explained to him I don't even touch the top, it's mechanical and he just shrugged it off.
Do you think I should be happy with his offer, or take it step further and call Honda?

make an official complaint to honda or the garage saying he tried to make you feel stupid for 'believing everything you read' on the internet when you use a forum full of knowledge especially when he doesn't even know the fundementals of the car he is talking about
he sounds like a right c*** to me, go into the dealership when they are trying to sell loads of cars on a saturday say and kick off and become a pain untill they just want rid of you

I'm assuming your warranty is up, so it sounds like an ok deal.
I also forgot to mention the asshole said to me, "I could always retract my offer"
seriously, thats how you treat an owner of your flagship car?
I would be pissed!
I'd try to rationalize with him. You got the warranty, and unless they specifically told you the top wasn't included in it, you should have it covered. it IS part of the car. If that doesn't work I'd then get to higher managment abiout the issue.
Good luck!

hmm, makes me wonder if they would then fix the clutch if it went, or the window relays, or the top motor... these are all things that are used on a daily basis and would be subject to "wear and tear."
one of my friends in high school blew the clutch on his brand new hyundai accent his parents bought him (he learned to drive stick on it) and hyundai replaced it under warranty.
now TECHNICALLY speaking those could be wear and tear items as well as a list of other things I'm sure... I'd bring that up to him, and push the issue that they should have mentioned the top would not be included seeing as it is a pretty large part of the car, and has been an issue in MOST s2000's.

take the offer man... it makes reps mad when you negotiate something they are not obligated to do. You have to understand you are out of warranty and he has no obligation to help you especially with little to no service history with a dealership. Take the offer and do not escelate as you will get the offer retracted if you pursue....
