Default Mazdaspeed 3 vs 50shot AP1

I was cruising on the interstate when this rsx-s with exhaust and a mazdaspeed 3 fly past me(ms3 was winning by a decent margain). I catch up when they were about to line up again. I passed the rsx-s and went for the mazdaspeed 3.

I line up with the mazdaspeed 3 and we go. from 70-120 I pulled about 3 cars. He tries to do the ricer fly-by so I go again so he can't pass me. This time I go to about 130 with just about a couple cars on him.

We pulled next to each other and gave thumbs up to each other. I asked what he had and he said "just an intake." Don't know how true that is, but I do know they're pretty quick from a roll.

Sprayed a 50 shot each time.

my friend's ms3 with just a cold air intake untuned (still within safe AFR) gained as much as 24whp at some points on the power curve on the dyno sheet. peak gain was like 22whp and 25wtq or something. that is pretty insane for just a cold air intake on a turbocharged car lol.

in any event good kill. 130mph is pretty fast, be careful around that speed

Yeah they're fast, they run like high 13's stock and trap higher than a s2000!

I'm just jealous of how responsive some other cars are to the simple bolt ons.

Its also turbo'd so the same changes would have different dynamics.

Those cars must come with shitty air intakes from factory.

I've run about 5 stick MS3s from a dig now, none have beat me. Stock to stock I don't see the MS3 beating the S2k from 0-60MPH or 1/4mile. I'm not saying it can't happen but I have not seen it yet. The torque/traction system keeps them from launching hard. Every run from 0mph I have jumped 2+ cars on them to about 45mph. From 45mph on I don't pull awaymore, the MS3 may gain back some distance but by 90-100mph I still have 1+ car.

You gotta respect the MS3 though, for the price that car is hard to beat.

yeah the same friend i mentioned above tried beating a sequoia after a green light across the intersection before the lanes merge into one and he barely edged out the tundra cuz he was spinning the hell out of his front tires lol. his tires are still OEM and about 70% tread left.

IIRC an ms3 with boost controller and fmic (stock top mount is basically placed there to get heatsoaked) and TBE trapped 111mph or something on the east coast on one of the more lenient 1/4 strips.
