Default Shift Knob Review: TWM Leopard, Voodoo, Stock

Here's the stock shift knob. It is heavy. I think it is the best looking of all. The fact that it is covered with genuine leather adds style, and it is also practical (cooler in summer, warmer in winter). If it were installed low enough, I wouldn't be buying any after market shift knobs. (In the picture, the knob is installed all the way down without the locking nut)

With the stock shifter, I had to bend my wrist to grab the shifter (I rest my right elbow on the center tunnel) and it did not feel right. To me, the shifter had to be shorter.

I searched this forum and found about the Voodoo knob. And I purchased the shiny black one from Rick's. The height is perfect, knob is well made, and reasonably priced. It felt much more comfortable than the stock one. There was only one problem: weight. This is not an extremely light knob, but it is not as heavy as the stock knob either. As a result, the shifter felt more notchy.

I thought about purchasing the Voodoo Titanium knob. But I decided that the little additional weight is not worth the significant price difference. If you have a thing for Titanium, by all means, go for it. It is an exclusive material. But there are cheaper and heavier metals, like steel.

Then I read about TWM shift knobs here. I heard that they were very heavy. It is not as popular as Voodoo. I really liked the height of Voodoo, and wondered if TWM sat as low as Voodoo. It does. The finish is as good as Voodoo, if not better. It is significantly heavier than the stock knob, Voodoo aluminum, and Voodoo titanium. Shifts are very smooth.

In appearance, there is very little difference between TWM (Leopard) and Voodoo. TWM sits a tad higher than Voodoo, but not much (see pictures). The neck of TWM is slightly thicker as well. TWM is way cheaper than Voodoo Titanium, and yet, way heavier. Highly recommended. Here's how it looks in the car:

I'm happy with my voodoo, it does feel notchier, but I like it that way. There's a little more feel when the gear engages.

Nice review
