Default Track Diary: SEARS POINT SCCA SF Region - ITE/ITR

We will be behind T12 in the competitor pits. If you are in the area, swing by and say hello

It's hard to relay some of the things that occur over a typical race weekend. There are many emotions that range from excitement, tension, stress and glory.

Finding a sense of humor between data log files and +100 degrees paddock/track temperatures is difficult but somehow we manage.

Yesterday was filled with preparation.

I am currently at Sears Point Raceway preparing the S2Ki Race Team for the SCCA San Francisco Region Spec Miata Festival Double Regional Event.

Yesterday I dyno-tuned Blackey's #47 (407WHP) and made a few changes on Krazik's #8 car (393WHP).

I have the dyno charts for these, once Bill has a chance to scan them, I will post them.

First, let me make the schedule clear.
ITR is group 5, ITE is group 1.

Saturday August 30th
8:30-12:10 PRACTICE all groups
12:10-1:10 LUNCH/SIESTA
2:00-2:20 Qualifying 1 Group 5
3:00-3:20 Qualifying 1 Group 1
5:10+ Social Hour- Rylan will hit the tables, the rest of us will grab dinner and a few beers.

Sunday August 31st
9:15-9:45 RACE 1 group 5
10:45-11:15 RACE 1 group 1
12:00-1:00 Lunch/Siesta

3:00-3:20 Qualifying 2 Group 5

Monday September 1st
8:30-8:50 Qualifying 2 Group 1
11:35-12:05 RACE 2 Group 5
12:05-1:05 Lunch/Siesta
2:35-3:05 RACE 2 Group 1

We were hoping to race with Derek Stevens from Hondata in the K-series powered EG. They won't be making it out this weekend, so hopefully we will see them at the Laguna event.

Good luck to all you guys, and no mechanical failures! (or incidents!)

Dave's not racing?

Wish I were there to see, even better to race. I sense the emotions are building.

ty. a crazy fast big hp mustang showed up and threw down a 1:43 for ite pole, then a bp comp coupe is 2nd overall (bp pole) with a 1:47.5, then my little honda in 3rd over all (2nd in ite) w/ a 1:47.7 (.5 sec slower than best ever). Blackey is a second back with a 48.8 his best ever I think he's 5th or 6th in class. There is a camaro, euro m3 and a bunch of other cars in between us. The z06 who's currently leading is a couple spots behind bill. I really need as many cars in class to finish between the z06 and my car to close the 18pt lead he currently has.

The track was SUPER greasy and my car wanted to swap ends in many turns and I was very surprised to see I still got in the 47s. I made some setup changes that should help in the race tomorrow.

Traffic pretty much sucked. Ry gridded first out. I gridded up about 8th. It's first come first serve for qualifying. After the first 2 laps, we starting catching the field and qualifying was basically done. I'm guessing both Ry and I have another second in the cars to find, with with 20+ Spec Miata's thats hard to do. The Mustang that showed up is a Griggs Factory car with a Nascar 800hp motor. No competing there.

I think 47's are in reach for my car, and Ry should be in the 46's. The track was very greasy. It made the cars a bit quirky. Oversteer in some places and understeer in others. My data showed my driving could be better, so hopefully tomorrow will be a good day for both of us.

With the added power my 275 Toyo's just don't have enough grip, especially on this track. Hoosiers next year for sure.

If it's a white mustang cobra and prepped like Nascar it's probably the same one I saw there in July with the Shelby club. It sounded reaaally fast, even with 102 db limit. Pay some miata guys to block him when about to be lapped... "oops!" .

Didn't Dave do 1:45's way back in '03 with simple Comptech SC and no wing? (when he broke his hub)
